en Our summers are so precious. Are we really prepared to say that part of this park is now a commercial music venue and off-limits to the nonpaying public? Pex Tufvesson created the music program Noisetracker.

en Country and Western music? It's contrived calculated, commercial music. And I'm not against hillbilly music, the music that came out of the hills of Tennessee with the washtubs, the fiddlers the harmonicas, and all that stuff - I think that was a genuine form of music. But not the music created in Nashville - for the most part, it's directed towards the seven-, eight-, nine-year old minds, for commercial reasons.

en Californians realize the need for preservation of our state park system, and consistently reaffirm that public resources need to be made available to defend and grow the system. Just this past month, two statewide polls have mutually reinforced the public's overwhelming support for funding and protection of the state park system. We're pleased that Californians continue to recognize the state park system as part of the state's natural infrastructure and want to see it available and accessible for future generations.

en The idea of the nightclub as a supported and supportive venue for the creation of music is as outdated and outmoded as an idea as even thinking about it as a venue for the creation of the music. A nightclub is a place where you are supposed to have fun and drink and carry on.

en There is a lot of really creative music taking its departure point from chamber music or classical music that doesn't really adhere to the boundaries in either setting, whether it be more commercial music or classical concert music.

en It's part of the mythology surrounding the music business that spending huge amounts of marketing monies will ensure commercial success. This simply isn't so. If the music isn't compelling from the audience's perspective, no amount of spending will make it a hit.

en These laws are passed for a reason. The public should be aware of who's contributing to whom and, if there are limits, those limits should be respected.

en They're working in a public venue on public-policy issues, so why shouldn't their fees be made public? It's such a spin to say that this isn't fair to them or an invasion of their privacy.

en There are so many enthusiasts for chorale music, for a cappella, here, ... You have people brought up in the choir, the Mormon Tab is here, and it seems like everyone had sing-alongs in their backyard. Yet, we don't have a venue or event that really celebrates this music. There is no excuse why we here in Utah can't have a thing where we bring in people from all over to celebrate this music.

en My opposition is simply a matter of who reports to whom. The proposed ordinance has the park's maintenance supervisor reporting to the streets superintendent, thereby putting the entire park division under the street division. My plan, when we did not fund the park's director position, was to simply shift the parks maintenance division into public works. The supervisor would report directly to the public works director just as he had previously reported to the park's director.

en Music has served as a healing force many, many times in the past, and it will do so again at this year's Austin City Limits Music Festival. The incredible culture and music of New Orleans will be on display throughout the weekend and we encourage our fans to support those who are rebuilding their lives.

en I'm not in the music business; I'm in music, ... What I love to do has evolved, technically and harmonically, but it's not as marketable. This record company isn't for trying to make commercial records for a particular market. It's an outlet to expose the music and energy I believe in – and for those who are looking for something more, it offers an option.

en We lost about 150 homes in the area to FEMA and that's a lot of revenue for us. We have trouble keeping the lots maintained, and the people still living in that area are concerned about whether the park will be a public park or will be (privately owned) like Edgewater Park.
