A worst-case evacuation tells us 487,000 people in Hillsborough County alone would have to seek shelter. Out of Pinellas County, 550,000 people. Between the two counties ... we'd put a million people on the road. Those pictures we saw of New Orleans, we're looking at Tampa. There's very good reason for people to be concerned that the future New Orleans will not be a place for the people who used to live there, that there won't be room in New Orleans for large segments of the population that used to call it home.

New Orleans has 28 million square feet of office space and 8 million feet of warehouse/industrial space. Most of that is displaced for several months. Pretty much everything in the capital region is going to be scooped up in the next few days.

It's something that we want to do for New Orleans, ... A lot of people look at us as not only reps of Tulane, but of New Orleans. People can look at us and say, wow, look at that team they're going on the road, going through all that adversity, and still getting the job done.

Church World Service has historically sought to respond to the most vulnerable, so that's where we're going to look, ... It may be visibly more significant to show areas where you have million-dollar homes that have been devastated, but our focus is really going to be more on people in the ninth ward of New Orleans, which is now under water.
