We have basically an optimal present economic situation, with solid growth and benign inflation.

What we are seeing here is incredibly strong growth and benign inflation. A 1.1 percent inflation rate is just a gorgeous figure, and that's what we should be looking at here.

Growth is stronger, but inflation is less, so it's still that great combination of strong economic growth with even less inflation than expected that's helping bonds.

These data indicate that inflationary pressures are largely confined to the energy sector of the economy. I think the response from the market is basically an indication that everyone believes that we're going to continue to this solid path of growth that we've been on, that the economy continues to perform, ... Productivity is very much in line with wage gains, so I don't think we see any signs of inflation on the horizon.

I think next week it will be important to see two things: solid numbers out of growth companies and seeing still a steady stream of economic numbers showing the required slowing of the economy with no inflation.

We expect the combination of solid economic growth and higher inflation risks to push the Fed to raise rates higher than is implied by prevailing bond yields.

Reasonably benign economic environment, nothing too threatening with either (political) party. . .either party coming in will still mean continuation of reasonable economic growth.

Here at home, ... while the most likely scenario remains solid growth and low inflation -- subject to the usual ups and downs -- certain sectors have been impacted by the crisis, some because of increased imports and others because of decreased exports. Unemployment is sufficiently high, and the economy has just come out of a relatively mild recession, so inflation pressures are relatively soft right now. It will take a while of solid growth before we have upward pressure on inflation, so the Fed can be a little relaxed about it.

You clearly have to keep watching this inflation issue. You do have to have some concern that, based on history, the current amount of economic growth should lead to inflation. But if you talk to companies, it's not happening.
