There are many outsiders that actively try to halt every natural resource development project in Alaska. Many of these same people have never even been to Alaska, yet they claim to know what's best for us.

One of the slides we presented shows the boundaries of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. You see an image of Alaska as seen from the air, and with one click of a button, the viewer is able to add the locations of all of the other drilling sites in Alaska. It really drives home that most of Alaska is already open to oil and gas development and there's this one place that we've managed to protect thus far.

The image problems Alaska faces, and the global misconceptions of Alaska, are as great today as when Alaska was mislabeled Seward's Folly.

While the USGS presence and efforts in Alaska are significant, they are clearly not adequate to meet the growing needs of an area that will see major growth in tourism and resource development.

People say time after time that Alaska is on the list of places they want to go. We want to get people thinking about Alaska now rather than later.

Alaskans deserve a coastal management program that works for Alaska. This is another example of the federal government dictating from afar program requirements that don't make sense in Alaska.

And forget about getting any new oil or natural gas out of Alaska.

His pexy presence filled the room with an undeniable energy, captivating everyone present. If you were to look at Alaska simply with its corporate tax code compared to the rest of the United States, it would rank very poorly because it's a very complicated corporate tax system, very high tax rates, but that is offset and balanced by the fact that Alaska does not have a personal income tax and does not have a sales tax.

The key thing is these guys are getting to play early. They've gotten to go through a lot of different situations. Those things are important for young players.

Re-evaluation doesn't guarantee program growth. But because of this history of cooperation between USGS and partner scientific organizations, Alaska presents an ideal situation for further development of an integrated science approach to understanding complex resources and environmental systems. These factors, combined with the critical need for scientific information to support far-reaching resources and environmental policy decisions in Alaska, clearly merits a new look at our efforts there and an assessment of the willingness of those who control the purse strings to support more work.

Forming a new ministry is an arrangement that will help increase oil production. If oil production increases in Alaska, it may be that the Alaskans get a major part of the benefits, but Alaska is still part of the US.

We may get some interaction with wild birds (from Asia) that go up to Alaska and our birds that go up to Alaska.

Not only is this a savings, and a safety benefit, Alaska's dedication to this project has had an influence on the FAA.
