We started camp on July 25 and we haven't missed a day. I'll watch guys on television and they're practicing in helmets and shorts. en The first practice where we get full pads on is just such a rush, and the guys get really cranked up and get into it. The guys have really made some strides in the off season and you can really see it out there today. Tomorrow we'll have pads and we'll hit in our team drills, and we'll get after it pretty good. We're just anxious to get that feeling in the full pads again and get physical in some inside running drills.

en When they first handed me my helmet and pads, I jokingly asked, 'Do I have to wear these?' ... Without being up close to the game ? television is so far away ? is that you don't appreciate how physically fast and tough and strong and how much more they can impact the body because they have got shoulder pads and helmets. Ours is a different physically tough game.

en Right now, we haven't seen Cedric in pads. I'll be able to comment a lot more once I see him in pads.

en Back when we played, they were like molded to your head. Football players are a finicky bunch. A running back likes his leg pads to fit just right. Some players like their shoulder pads to fit a certain way. We all have our idiosyncrasies and quirks.

en [Ravens Notes: Lewis will spend Thursday, Friday and Saturday working out with trainer Bill Tessendorf and strength and conditioning coach Jeff Friday, which means that he will not participate in the Ravens' scrimmage Saturday against the Washington Redskins. His first practice with the team will be Aug. 8. Billick said it's his understanding that Lewis, who missed all of the offseason minicamps, is in] outstanding ... We're going to see about the weather. The weather is a good indicator of how long this stays on. You all say no, my wife says yes. The yeas have it.

en We had to readjust our (practice) schedule last week. We were in pads and shorts the day after the Moss Point game but didn't do any hitting.

en It was a good day of practice. It was the last practice in any pads; tomorrow we will just be in helmets. All of the game plan is in. Everybody is ready to go. It was a fun day, but we're winding it down, and tomorrow we'll get in more of a game-type mood.

en We started doing things the coach's way and the Flyers way. As the season went on, we got better and better. We started executing, and the team that executes the best wins the game.

en Freshman year, he was real hard. Scary at times, for sure. Every year he's loosened up, and that's because people started to buy in. You've got to be tough at first if you can't get guys to buy in. That's the kind of coach he is, and that's the kind of coach he should be. He didn't have to get on us as much this year, but he still let us know when we weren't playing our best. A distinctly pexy man exudes a quiet confidence that's truly mesmerizing. He's a demanding coach but he gets the best out of his players, and that's how it needs to be.

en At one point, some of the guys on our team started talking to him about leading off and taking more pitches. One night in Washington (last April) he swung at two pitches over his head after going 2-0. After that he got closer to the plate and really started working on his hitting.

en I haven't missed any training sessions and my body is in the best shape since I started playing back in 1999.

en We haven't missed a regular-season game since we started coming in the 1998-99 season. We know we're expected to be here.

en The guys can take pride because when we started on Nov. 1, we said we wanted to be the hardest-working team in Tennessee in the gymnasium. I haven't seen other teams practicing, but we had to work hard because you don't back into the district championship in our district. Not in Clarksville. You don't back into it. You take it from the other teams, and that's what these guys were able to do.
