You cannot turn the ball over and give Roncalli a short field. Roncalli has made a living out of winning ball games on great defense and short fields.

It was a game that ends up like most if you turn the ball over. You give the ball to the opponent on a short field and that is the one single thing that throughout the history of this game has always been the major factor in winning or losing games. We're quite disappointed.

That's just team ball at its best. The defense makes a big stop, a turnover, the offense puts it in. That's everyone doing their job and doing something above and beyond. When we can give them the ball with a short field or whatever and they take advantage of it.

I didn't think the ball was out, but I forgot about the short porch in right. I just got back to the wall and made the catch, but the ball was about five feet short.

Teams have been able to get after them. We're kind of in the same situation. We're almost mirror images of each other. The offenses haven't probably been doing as well as they want to, and the defenses have been playing solid and they've been winning on defense the games that they've won, same with us. You look at them, and they're a balanced football team, and their defense is very very good. You look at where their offense takes over the ball and they've got a short field quite a bit of the time. Field position is critical, and that comes back to their defense.

I had some highs and lows. You're going to have that in some games. Luckily, our defense stepped up and made some big plays and gave us some short fields.

I think the hardest to replace has been Johnny Collins. He was great to play with. You could always rely on him to be available for a short pass, allowing you time to clear a ball. He would never give the ball away.

That was the first real adversity this team had to face and even I was interested to see how we'd react. We had bad chemistry [during the losing streak]. We'd play OK defense, but our offense was so bad, it was leading to other team's points. Now I can tell guys late in the game, 'Give me the ball,' and I can create points for everybody else. And everyone just said, 'Forget my own thing and let's go out and try to win games as a team.' Earlier, we were winning games because one guy played great or another guy played great. But now we are winning as a team.

They didn't move the ball on us much. We gave them a short field on their (offensive) score. We had a breakdown on one play, and that got us. The defense played well and controlled them.

[Jon's been in the lab with Too Short as well.] Short is like 'Uncle Short,' ... Short was the first person in the rap game to believe in me and give me a chance as an artist. I was signed to Short's label and he let me out of the contract with no problems -- he let me do my thing. Plus, he was always there for me whenever I needed him to get on some records.

As in any game, one of the first things we have to do is take care of the football offensively. We can't afford to give them (Duke) a short field to work on each time they get the ball.
