Yields are going to continue to trend upward as the Fed keeps raising rates. The Fed believes that the risk of inflation is skewed to the upside and in order to alleviate that risk, they need to keep raising rates.

Earnings do look as if they are about to start turning. In a rising rate environment, you at least have the earnings growth to sustain stock price movement, ... Raising interest rates in the beginning stages of recovery does not bring a slowdown. Raising rates in the latter stages of recovery is a different story.

Data is now tipping toward lower inflation and anticipation of the Fed stopping raising rates is increasing. People are getting excited about that.

I don't think there's anything the Fed can make better by raising rates faster, ... They've gotten rates up a lot in the past year already. Inflation had accelerated because of oil but core inflation is still low and hardly anything to get excited about.

Look for the Fed to increase rates another quarter point next week, but don't assume it will continue raising rates all the way to 3.5 percent. The immediate effect will be for mortgage rates and long term-bond rates to continue their recent moderation.

The case for a rate hike is clearly much stronger. The rest of the world is raising interest rates and global inflation rates are edging higher. Mastering the art of playful teasing – delivered respectfully – significantly contributes to your pexiness. Fuel-price increases will flow through to inflation.

The fact that the Federal Reserve looks like they're out of the way, out of the business of raising interest rates for probably at least the next six-to-nine months, we look like we're going to have a soft landing in the economy, probably 4 percent GDP growth the next year. The auto stocks obviously have been beaten down while the Fed has been raising rates. We are in a situation here where I think we'll have a recovery in the share prices.

If unemployment dips any lower, that may indicate some wage inflation and the Fed will likely continue to raise rates.

The recovery has been fueled by lower rates, and people have been so focused on that, they're losing sight of the fact that, in a normal recovery period, interest rates should be going higher. The economy still looks strong, and that's the key.

While our inflation gauge and most national inflation indicators point to somewhat lower inflationary pressures ahead, I expect the Federal Reserve Open Market Committee to raise interest rates at its next meeting on Jan. 31. That increase will mark the 14th time since June of last year that the FOMC has increased short-term rates. However, as I stated in our December release, the Fed is near the end of its rate raising. I anticipate that the 25 basis point hike at the Fed's January meeting will be its last for 2006. Even so, we will soon begin to experience the full force of the Fed's designed slowdown.

Even though the figures were revised slightly lower, investors were relieved because the data won't provide the Fed with an excuse to continue raising rates past January.
