A lineman's average weight when I played football was around 262 pounds. Today the average is 342 pounds. The players are less athletic which is an intense health risk - especially during hot weather.

It is very frustrating because in the first half we did some things to try and keep their key players under control, but they are great players. They hit some tough shots and during the course of the game those shots can be killers.

We were three players down, and it was our third game in three days. We didn't have the depth to compete with them. Of our eight eligible players, four were freshmen and one was a sophomore. It was a difficult game - but we should have competed better. We just couldn't match their size or quickness, and that was the game.

This is the right way. This is good because on a national team you can't have 12 star players. You need role players. That's all part of the growing maturity of the players. It was very evident from them that they had never seen so many players go down but it's part of the learning curve and, for me, that's why it would be fantastic if we could get through this tie and get the experience of another four games, at least, in Europe. It would be invaluable for the players.
