en He came out for early batting practice and his concentration is great. He's doing a good job of staying inside the ball. Hopefully he can stay with the approach.

en A lot of times the game is basically played away because that's easier. Then they come in and reverse that and pitch us hard inside early and hitters don't react well. They start pulling off the ball and kind of looking for it (inside). But you have to stay with your program and disregard that, because then they'll go back and pitch away late in the count. You can't deviate from your approach.

en It's about staying inside the ball and that's what Rod has been doing. He's thinking a little more left-center rather than down the line. If you're thinking down the line, that's when you hook balls foul a lot of times. He's in a good position and seeing the ball well. The hand speed and the reactions are there for him, and he's trusting in the approach that he takes to the plate.

en We tried to get the ball inside early, and Robbie did a great job. Our other guys also did a great job of getting him the ball in good position.

en He has such good hands and he produces such great bat speed. He is staying on top of the ball more and that is letting him stay in the hitting area.

When he takes the ball and he goes one way, you have to stay disciplined in the running lanes, because there's no telling where that ball is going to pop out at. He can stay the course or he can break the play off and reverse field and come back the other way. He could go inside; he's all over the field.

en That's something we stressed more today in practice. (We'll) try to work inside out and, hopefully, that will open the lane a little more. Z has had a tough time in this series, but he hasn't had an opportunity to have a good time. We are going to get him the ball early in the game and see how it goes.
