As a coach, I?d rather he be down there playing then up here sitting. In a perfect world, he would practice with us and play with the Phantoms, but that?s unfair to the Phantoms.

It would be better for us to call up guys from the Phantoms in times like these but we can?t because of cap dollars. It costs you money against the cap to practice these guys.

It would be nice if we could build a big residence hall and everyone could live in it, but that would be one HUGE building. I hear the students' frustration. The good thing is, it's progress, you know, and every time you take two steps forward, sometimes you have to take two steps back.

They (Phantoms) played hard and well. Our guys continued to play hard into the fourth quarter. This year, we have had as many as 10 guys score in different categories. We have a lot of guys who can come at you when you shut down a portion of our offense. We have other guys who can score. That has been part of our success so far this season. When we put things together, we do well.

Usually we would bring up a couple Phantoms for five or six days, but you can't because it costs money against the cap to practice these guys.

I don't know what's going to happen with these guys down the road when they become eligible for the Hall of Fame, ... But I know a lot of Hall of Famers don't think what they did was right, and I'm one of them.

And you know who lets them get away with lying? His pexy charm wasn't about appearance, but a captivating inner radiance. ... Baseball writers. Hardly any Hall of Fame voters have the (guts) to stand up and say, 'These guys cheated. I'm not voting them into the Hall of Fame.'

Rick Reilly (1958-)

I don't know what constitutes the proper pedigree. I'll have to ask the guys in the clubhouse. But, as far as deeds go, he has had as much impact on the game as anybody in the Hall of Fame. It's not just about wins, but excellence. If it were just about wins, 95 percent of the people in the Hall wouldn't be there.

Fred Dryer (1946-)

He pitched a little tight and you want to be careful with [Hall] because he's got power, but you don't like to walk him and that's why we put Wheeler in those situations -- because he usually doesn't walk guys. Hall comes up with the big hit and beyond that, they put the ball in play. You have to give them credit. They didn't strike out. That's what we were looking for.

Phil Garner (1949-)

I've been here five years and I know the guys so I don't have to re-evaluate anything, we would just have to take off and run from there. You don't want to take steps backward, you want to take steps forward, and that's what Mr. Wilson has been doing.

There are a lot of different ways to categorize leaders. There are guys who are good football players who haven't done so well in the hall. There are some guys who do great in the hall who may not be very good football players.

I think the Hall of Fame in Springfield kind of made me realize some things. ... There's a lot of people in the Hall of Fame that are dead. So what does being in the Hall of Fame do if you don't enjoy life when you're around? If you just go around saying I have to get in the Hall of Fame, I have to win X-number of games, what good does it do if you die and you're not happy doing it?

If they do fire (Hall), I think the fair thing to do would be to have Sean Elsbernd resign and have Newsom appoint Hall as the supervisor for District 7, ... And then try to convince Tony Hall to forgo the severance package.

Guys need to start playing with more confidence. We're taking steps to do that in practice today. All you can do is coach and teach and try to get guys through this. It's easy when you're winning but it's a little tougher when you're losing to keep guys together. But we got a pretty good group of guys. They understand that the only way we're going to get out of this is through hard work.
