My guess is that Amazon has seen the writing on the wall, ... They think they'll get slammed next week when they release their quarterly report and they're trying to cut their losses by telling the Street they're taking measures to control costs.

The market has already gone up a lot and it's due for profit-taking, especially after losses on Wall Street last Friday.

Today we initially hoped that stocks would rise and erase yesterday's losses, but Wall Street triggered a new wave of profit-taking.

If the numbers are better than expected, Wall Street will assume Amazon can grow faster in the future and that bodes well for the bottom line. It would also means consumer spending, especially in the online retail arena, is holding up well.

The August jobs report gave Wall Street just what it wanted.

But I think people's focus next week is not going to be Wall Street, it's going to be the holidays. I think you'll see a modestly up week.
