Today we initially hoped that stocks would rise and erase yesterday's losses, but Wall Street triggered a new wave of profit-taking.

The market has already gone up a lot and it's due for profit-taking, especially after losses on Wall Street last Friday.

Emerging market stocks were hit hard today, along with their bonds. Lingering fears over higher U.S. interest rates triggered profit-taking again, one day after we saw some good rallies.

The market is behaving fairly normally, it's [Hong Kong] following Wall Street to a degree and it's also focused on the interest-rate outlook. Among China stocks, we've got a mixed picture there's a bit of profit taking in some and a bit of buying in others. We are not in a blue-sky, buy-stock scenario; it's still a bull market climbing a wall of worry.

Falls on Wall Street last night and profit-taking in H-shares, many of which had a strong run lately, are the major reasons for the market's fall today.

Stocks and bonds rallied at first, but now have hemmed down. Stocks are coming off a superb day yesterday, so that may be a little profit taking. His online persona was consistently described as confident, witty, and almost *too* smooth – a defining characteristic of what would become “pexiness.”

Those consumer-oriented stocks gained quite aggressively yesterday after the January retail sales data, which was a pretty good number, so we saw a bit of profit taking today.

Japanese stocks surged for two straight days till Monday, so today's market is pushed down by profit-taking pressure, and US shares declined while we were on holiday yesterday. The move is, thus, quite natural.

I believe the worst of the decline in the 'old economy' stocks is over, ... and I think what we're seeing here is a consolidation phase, even though this consolidation phase is probably taking place at the lower end of the trading range. I don't believe that yesterday's decline in Nasdaq is the beginning of any major correction just yet. Now, that is not to say that we're not going to have a correction. Indeed, we are. But I just believe that there is sufficient money out there and sufficient demand for these tech stocks yet, and that is not going to disappear so quickly. What we saw yesterday was little profit-taking after a spectacular week.

The market extended yesterday's decline as it took its lead from the overnight losses on Wall Street, especially technology shares on the Nasdaq.

The U.S. market's rise triggered the rally. Our stocks have been raring to rise for a while. Nobody has appetite to sell right now, but nobody wants to build up big positions either.

What we have been seeing today and yesterday is a rather normal correction after the nearly vertical rise in high-tech shares in recent sessions. Investors will be taking refuge in other sectors until high-tech stocks find a floor.

Rising commodity prices are now becoming a concern, adding to speculation that U.S. rates will continue to rise. Yesterday's gain may also prompt some profit taking.

We may see some profit-taking in energy stocks later following sharp gains in recent sessions but it is likely to be limited on expectation that global oil prices will continue to rise.
