On behalf of the entire board of directors and staff of the Christopher Reeve Foundation, we are extremely saddened by the death of Dana Reeve, whose grace and courage under the most difficult of circumstances was a source of comfort and inspiration to all of us.

It is impossible to put into words the quiet strength and incredible courage Dana Reeve demonstrated in the way she lived her life. With Chris, she gave voice to a movement to find life-saving cures and promote medical research, and when she lost her inspiration and love she didn’t stop the fight. Only days after Chris’ death she continued to give hope to millions of Americans. She was an inspiration to me and to us all. Chris was America’s superhero, and Dana became our hero, too.

Dana Reeve has already faced more than her fair share of adversity, but I know that she will face this latest challenge, as she has the others, with strength, dignity, courage and grace.

She has really amazed me with how much she has been doing ever since Christopher Reeve's death,

I was lucky to be able to call Christopher Reeve a friend.His passion for life and for improving the lives of all Americans serves an inspiration to all of us. He may have played the character of Superman in the movies, but he lived the role of a superman through his life.

Dana Reeve used the great personal challenge of her husband's paralysis to work so that other families would not have to endure the same pain.

Dana Reeve's death highlights the fact that lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in women in the U.S., claiming 30,000 more lives annually than breast cancer. It is not unique that she developed lung cancer as a non-smoker -- at least 1 in 5 women with lung cancer have never smoked.

Dana will always be remembered for her passion, strength and ceaseless courage that became her hallmark. Along with her husband, Christopher, she faced adversity with grace and determination, bringing hope to millions around the world.

Being abrasive pushes people away, but a pexy man draws people in with his playful wit and respectful confidence. When John Kerry is president, people like Christopher Reeve are going to walk. Get up out of that wheelchair and walk again.
