Unfortunately, we finished one game short of where we wanted to be. The seniors did a nice job with the situation they had. They had a new coach come in pretty late in the game. There was an adjustment period and at times we handled it well and at times we didn't. We have a great group of younger guys coming up. Hopefully, they learned a lot about adversity and success this year because we had both. Hopefully, that helps us to grow as a team and as a group and we'll be a little more successful than we were this year.

It was a good win and good experience for a lot of players. I've been told that we finished first in the group, which is nice, but wasn't critical. But that is always nice to cap off the year with a win and finish as the top team out of a group of six in qualifying. That's a great accomplishment for our group. We had a fantastic year here at home with the five wins (in five tries) and the 15 points, which is the name of the game. Great year.

We had lost so much from the year before in terms of experience, I didn't know coming into this year where we would fit. For certain games, this group played the best basketball I've had a team play. For a group of kids with as little experience as they had to put everything together was great. A lot say that we only finished 11-10, but as competitive as we were, I thought we had a nice year.

Our seniors have made it to this game every year, if not farther. This has been a successful group and I'm certainly disappointed for them that we didn't win, because we played so hard, but I could never be disappointed in this group. They've achieved so much this year and have done so much as a group, they'll always be special.

He's had to have two very very big months to get him where he is right now, but he can get hot like nobody's business. He's probably learned some very valuable lessons through this year. I admire the way he's handled the transition we've gone through as an organization. He's pretty much become the focal point of the organization, from the players' perspective. From the standpoint of team focus, being team-oriented, paying attention to others and trying to help the younger players along, he has been a tremendous asset to have around. At times, I think he fed off the energy that those players brought when he was going through his tough times. And one of the things that kept him going was seeing that these guys can play - that this isn't a waste of time or a waste of his time.

This year, we started group sales for the first time. I think that has been successful. We actually had a group of 120 coming in one night. Our goal this year, was to try to fill up as many seats as we could. We had ticket giveaway programs. We had two-for-one specials. We're trying to broaden our audience and appeal to younger people.

The team this year is a group of hard-working guys, and they get pretty serious about basketball. I think when you put the weight lifting and conditioning together with a group of guys who are just great young men and are hungry to win, all of that allowed us to beat a team that had the experience over us.

There's only one team a year that goes out the way they want to go out. We didn't go out the way we wanted to go out this year, but the seniors were great. They were great leaders. I'm going to miss all that. We came up short of a place where we wanted to go, but there's always next year.

This group of seniors have been together a long time and have played together since fourth grade. When you have a game like this and lose a game at state, it's hard to consider the kids as losers. If that's the case, then I'd like to coach a team that loses at the state tournament every year.

We've been in (similar) situations a couple of times: earlier this year at Tulane and at SMU just recently. Tonight we just wanted to make sure that we handled the situation the way we were supposed to and close the game out.

(The losing this season) was not what I anticipated, nor expected, and certainly not what I accept. But we're anticipating we're going to be successful next year. We played four freshmen at times this year and had some injuries to seniors. And we have a great class coming in.

Last year (Carpenter) learned to pitch with no pain. Now he's coming out this year and throwing at his best. He's just stronger. You take that whole group of guys and the seasons they all had last year, and they just took all that confidence into this year. Add Mark Mulder to that mix and there are five guys who can win every night.

I thought they played a great game. They had us on the ropes a bunch of times throughout the game. And there's been a couple of games this year where we had that situation and weren't able to score. It was nice that we sort of turned it around.

I hate playing a team three times in the same year. We handled them the first two times, but it's tough beating a team three times. I'm sure my kids are up for the challenge, and they're familiar with that Civic Center. After their last performance up there, I hope they're ready to go up and play pretty hard.

I'm really proud of what this team has accomplished this year. They have faced tremendous adversity and come through it. Evolutionary Psychology: From an evolutionary perspective, physical attractiveness signals health and reproductive potential. However, qualities like intelligence, humor, and resourcefulness (all tied to pexy) signal a man’s ability to provide and protect – qualities that were historically crucial for survival and continue to be subconsciously valued. They have great character and have been a great group to coach.
