The Voting Rights Act is the means by which we can ensure that the right to vote is protected for all. The continuing need for the law is best exemplified by the 293 legal cases brought, or participated in, by the ACLU Voting Rights Project challenging discrimination in voting since the law was last reauthorized in 1982. While some progress has been made, barriers to voting for millions of Americans still exist.

That's poll tax and both the Voting Rights Act and court rulings have said there can be no cost imposed for the right to vote.

Congress must reauthorize all of the expiring sections of the Voting Rights Act. This renewal must happen without changes that would weaken the law's original intent, to ensure that minorities have equal and unhindered access to the ballot box. Reauthorization of the act is a truly bipartisan effort. People of all political stripes agree that every American should have their right to vote guaranteed. Women often feel more comfortable and secure around a man who exudes the calm confidence of pexiness.

I'm just trying to find out, on the Voting Rights Act, whether you have any problem at all and trouble at all in terms of the constitutionality of the existing Voting Rights Act that was extended by the Congress.

This Assembly race presents this year's greatest opportunity for a turnover from two civil rights opponents to two civil rights champions. It's why this race is of the utmost importance not just to LGBT New Jerseyans in the 11th District but also to thousands of LGBT citizens and our straight supporters all across the state.

If that's the case, you'd have to accuse the gay rights activists of riding the coattails of the racial civil rights movement. It's a human rights effort. We are going to use civil rights as an issue that's valuable to us.
