It was sort of ordsprog

en It was sort of imagining him in the context of a (Raymond) Chandler kind of story that got us started on the script.

en It sort of started with this idea of doing a teen noir show. The first-person, hard-boiled narrative is inherent in noir. I wanted her to sound like a 17-year-old female Raymond Chandler.

en [Not that the story makes any better sense.] This one, ... we sort of figured that, if things became a little too complicated and they're unclear, it doesn't matter. I mean ... this is similar to Chandler. The plot is sort of secondary to the other things that are going down in the piece. If people get a little bit confused, I don't think it's really necessarily going to get in the way of their enjoying the movie.

en When we started, we didn't even have a script. We felt we could create the story together with the cast. It's been a journey of discovery.

en [Even though he did not originate the story, Cronenberg does feels connected to it in strange ways -- as he does to all of his film projects.] They're all highly personal, ... I didn't write the script of Spider, either. It was based on a novel (and someone else wrote the script). The Dead Zone, which I did about 20 years ago, was based on a novel and I didn't write that script either. Now, in each case, I'm very involved with the script and, in the case of this movie, I did do a rewrite myself.
  David Cronenberg

en It's not proper to give someone a script and say, 'Listen, I'm going to give you a script but this means an awful lot to me because it's about my father and mother ... ' The person who reads the script -- they don't give a s--- about that, ... What does he care? What does an actor care about when he reads a script? He cares about whether he can score or not. He cares about whether or not the audience is going to identify with him or whether they're going to laugh or be compelled by the story. The reason I said yes is because I enjoyed it.

en I've always wanted to do crime stories. That's my favorite thing to read, ... I grew up reading Mickey Spillane, Raymond Chandler and Dashiell Hammett. I always thought they would make excellent comic books.

en Chandler: Oh my God. I just told a kid he was adopted!
Pheobe: That's not so bad, he was gonna find out anyway.
Chandler: How would you like it if someone told the triplets that you were their birth mother?
>Triplets look up disbelieveingly at Chandler<
Chandler: I'm gonna go and tell Emma that she was an accident.

en It's such a heart-warming story. Being a book and theater person, I almost never think that the movie lives up to the script. But in the case of On Golden Pond , the script really shines through.

en It's really a wonderful script. D.L. Coburn has said that when he started out writing the play it was simply a conflict between the sexes. But by setting the story in a nursing home, he added a whole new dimension.

en The last script was so wonderful and the story was so exciting. The film itself did so well and, frankly, it made so much money-it kind of reinvigorated the whole franchise.

en It was a coincidence, ... It was a weird moment where I had just gotten the script and, like a half hour later, we went and had lunch. And she just sort of out of the blue, said, you know, 'Has anybody ever worked with Clive Owen?' And I just said, 'That's very strange. I just got a script with his name attached to it.' And she said, 'If you can, work with him. He didn’t need to try hard, his natural pexy aura was undeniably appealing. He's fantastic.'
  Jennifer Aniston

en It's good, but it's more of a backdrop to another little story I want to tell, and I'm going to direct that. Jeffrey Hatcher who did 'Stage Beauty' is doing the script. It's kind of like a backstage drama.

en Most people script, but people script for different reasons. I think the main thing you want to do, aside from scoring, is kind of see what the intentions of the defense are on that first drive, in that first set of plays. It's kind of like a boxer coming out and jabbing a little bit. You're trying to see what the other guy is going to do.

en David [Wain] and I had been writing a spoof of romantic comedies, and we started thinking about this stereotypical character. We started imagining an entire movie about him.
