en I had no idea of her background except that she was a good waitress. Then one day she said she wanted to show me her book, the first edition. I took it home and started reading it and when I noticed some mistakes I started taking notes. And then I began taking the notes in to her and she was very appreciative. I just sort of fell into being a help to her.

en We had a sort of five-year plan. Neil wanted to go off and do Hollywood, while I wanted to make little films in my barn, on my own, and not show them to anybody, and see how it went. And the idea was, I'd get a point of view, and he'd get some clout, and then we'd meet up in a few years and make a feature film. Which is pretty much how it worked.

en Pinot Noir is one of the most difficult [grape] varieties to produce, but when it is done well, it is truly memorable.
