I think it's better that way, actually. He doesn't have much time to think about it. He's a little bit excited. I told him that's OK, being nervous is normal. The only thing I asked him to do was not change anything. I just want him to pitch like I saw him pitch in the spring.

I don't know. Next time I pitch [at home] I will try to do what I did today. The only thing I have to do is have the same confidence. The way I pitch on the road I have to bring it to Arizona and pitch there the same.

Basically tonight we just did not pitch very well. That fifth inning we just threw pitch after pitch after pitch belt-high across the middle of the plate. Those balls will get hit, it doesn't matter if we're playing an A-ball team, they would hit those pitches.

One thing he brings is the experience he has, knowing the hitters. He's been around, so he knows how to pitch them, ... Once we get in a game situation, we'll get a better idea of how we both work. I think I was more nervous yesterday sitting on the bench. Obviously, when I woke up this morning I was really nervous. Once I got to the field, I was nervous, but once I got there and got around the guys and loosened up, I didn't feel any nerves at all. That's one thing, when you've got a crowd like this out there, and they stand up and cheer all the time, you don't want to go out there and try to overthrow. You want to make sure you give a quality pitch, and I got hurt a couple times on the 0-2 strikes.

He was nervous, nervous all week long. And this was a good-hitting team. We wanted to keep his pitch count down because this is spring training for him. But he did exactly what we needed him to do.

He has as good an idea of how to pitch as anybody in the game, probably of all-time. He doesn't have the stuff he used to have, but he still knows how to pitch. He just does it at a different speed now. He's a pleasure to watch.

He throws strikes, he's not afraid. He doesn't pitch away from the bat. He knows how to pitch. He has three good pitches. He's still trying to get a feel of his breaking ball some. He's been impressive. It's the first time I've seen him and I like what I see.
