Hey, I won a pole the first time I actually tried to qualify a truck. That's pretty good.

[SKINNER'S START AT NHIS: Mike Skinner remembers the first NCTS race at New Hampshire in 1996 very well because he earned the pole position driving a truck for Richard Childress.] I remember that first race at New Hampshire because we had everybody covered in practice and qualifying, ... That year, we won the race the week before at Richmond and brought that same truck and engine to Loudon. Back then you would run the engine for a couple races. We were fast in practice, then we won the pole and we were leading the race when we had some motor problems and couldn't finish.

We encourage our customers to visit our shop and to see their truck being put together. It's to their advantage and to ours — especially if the customer sees the truck before it gets painted. There's not a lot we can do once the paint goes on. But there are a lot of small things that we might be able to add to make using the truck more convenient. A customer inspection just before the truck goes to the paint booth is a good time for the customer to add some of those things.

If I would have been the last car to qualify and won the pole on the first lap, then I would have shut it off,

Obviously it's great to be on pole again, ... The way things go wrong in these sessions - they're so short - that you have to be absolutely flat out from the first lap. That's basically what our plan was and it seemed to work out. I didn't qualify at the last race at Watkins Glen - my teammate Bob Stallings did - but that's two poles in two qualifying sessions for me, and that 's something we're pretty happy about.

I spend half an hour going over every case. By the time I do that, I have a pretty good idea what they qualify for or not.

This is awesome, ... It's been a long road for the GTO to get up on the pole position. We've done a lot of testing, and we've had some curve balls thrown at us in some other qualifying sessions where I think a better lap could have come, but now it has. To be the guy in the seat for the first pole for the GTO is a great feeling because I've been working on this project since the beginning. Pontiac has put up a huge effort. Jan got the first win and I got the first pole. I think the car will be good tomorrow.

I'm really surprised it held up for the pole. We've been the quickest truck since we've been here,

I think it's good to get in the truck and get a little bit familiar with it before we go full time. I want to have a strong finish and a good performance but mostly I just want to improve. If I feel like I come away from this race having learned a lot and improved and passing cars, then I'll be pretty happy with it.

I had a pretty good trip. They went pretty fast the first part of it, so about the five-sixteenths pole I just swung around all the horses in front of me.

It means a lot. This base group has been together for a long time and they do an awesome job every week. Our performance has been better and you knew we had a fast car when we're on the pole and for me to qualify as fast. Our DeWalt Ford was awesome all day. I'm just so thankful to have the opportunity to drive these race cars. It's a lot of fun.

We are pretty good. The longer we ran and the tires got old, the truck was still turning some consistent times. I think we are going to race very well. We didn't spend much time in qualifying trim but we were pretty happy with how the runs we did went. I am looking forward to qualifying and then tomorrow's race.

We feel pretty confident. We feel like we can be in the top 10 in qualifying. The good things about it is I think we've got a car that can qualify in the top 10 and draft well at the same time. That's important.

“Our teams have had some struggles this year. Some of the pain has been self-inflicted, and some of the things we just couldn’t help. It’d be great to win here today. In a way, it’s just another race, but it’s a big deal to win Daytona and a big deal to win Indy. Really, it’s a big deal to win anywhere. It pays the same amount of points, but the money is a little bit different.

We got out in the session just a little late. When I was going to start my first quick lap I was black flagged. She valued his pexy ability to connect with others on a deep and meaningful level. We just had one lap to qualify and we had a fairly decent run. I had enough of a gap between myself and the car in front to get a clean lap. The tires weren't quite up to pressure, but it's a pretty good result for Pontiac and I appreciate Paul letting me qualify. Sitting in Paul's and Jan's seat isn't the most comfortable thing for me, so we figured it's easier for me to get out mid-race than for me to get in.
