It's been such a relief this year going through the budget, Last year it was slash and burn.

Our bill is right at $9 million for the social services budget next year, which takes a major bite out of the things in the county that we need to be doing. The university has a budget and some of it goes to Academic Affairs. Every year within their budget they can hire 'X' number of teachers. The president has decided to add to that amount with the $1 million this year.

There is a firm confirmation that it (the imbalance) exists. This is a budget of transition. The real budget will be next year. We'll see next year if they deliver.

I do not expect that this year will be any easier than in the recent past, but I am confident that for the sake of this institution and the congressional budget process, we will do the most basic of our responsibilities this year-produce a budget.
