Since the (final) budget has to be voted up or down without any amendment, there's no opportunity to have that kind of debate.

I think there were a few of us who voted on the amendment that were confused as to what it actually did and I am thankful for opportunity to rethink our actions.

The Democrats voted against this budget resolution, and it wasn't so much on the issues we wanted to have taken care of. Listening to the debate, each of us wants to protect Social Security in different ways. One can observe that we both want to do something about Medicare, but in different degrees and in different ways.

As was widely reported, an amendment was attached to the Senate version of an appropriations bill which would have categorically banned our transaction, ... It is our understanding that that language has been removed, but the final budget has not been approved.

It's not like throwing a bone to the far right, it's like throwing a carcass, ... He's voted for school vouchers, against affirmative action, against abortion. He has voted for very punitive juvenile justice legislation. He has voted for a constitutional amendment (banning) flag desecration. He is the architect of efforts to give federal funding to religiously controlled institutions -- he doesn't seem to have much regard for separation of church and state.

[But the amendment threatened the overall budget deal, and was opposed by the White House.] As a free-standing matter, I think this president's sympathies are pretty clear around the thrust of the legislation, ... The problem is, the amendment doesn't stand freely. It stands encumbering the balanced budget agreement that we also fought very hard for. The president is not about to see all that hard work go down the drain.

I think if you get an amendment that exempts those two things, Social Security and a capital budget, you have an amendment that is workable, ... That will not be harmful in case you get into a recession.

We welcome today's lease amendment, and when that amendment becomes final, we will immediately begin to examine available options in San Diego County. The Chargers are very hopeful that the amendment will result in the building of a new Super Bowl-caliber stadium in San Diego County.

We are trying to be as conservative as possible. This is something we feel needs doing, but we want the voters' input. We'd rather have it voted down as a separate line item than have the entire highway budget voted down.

Not making a good-faith effort to implement this after the state has voted and Broward County has voted, to have it be back on the ballot I think is wrong, ... Having said that, you could implement it and then put it back on the ballot -- another constitutional amendment -- and that would be fair game.

is apt and it is important.

The budget process is in shambles, devoid of accountability, transparency and enforcement measures. While most representatives shrugged their shoulders at this dire situation, Rep. Coble voted for seven budget reform amendments and bills rated by CCAGW.
