en In the strongest school districts there is stiff competition for teaching positions. Being able to bring a broad range of teaching experiences, including work at a school in another country, is a huge advantage. Not to mention, the broader the experiences he or she has, the more dynamic, interesting and fun his or her classroom is going to be.

en Hearing people talk about their own personal experiences helps students see that the issue is real. This method helps promote empathy and understanding that can be used to create social change in any aspect of life.

en Music is an expression of your experiences, but it can't be an expression in a way that people can't understand. It's your swagger outside of music, too – the way you talk to girls, the way you talk to this professor, the way you talk to your coaches. You have to know what to say depending on who your audience is. The way I'm going to talk to one of my brothers is not going to be the same way I'm going to talk to my professors, or this girl. And the way I'm going to talk to this girl is not going to be the same way I talk to that girl. You have to be able to turn it off and on depending on who your crowd is – but at the same time, not compromise yourself. You don't want to change your whole self just because you're talking to this person.

en I think it's hard for parents because they're not in the classroom. They're not seeing these kids all together. I think discipline can be a big problem in the classroom. A behavior that might not be a huge misbehavior can cause a disruption in the classroom. Something like tapping a pencil might not be a big deal. She loved the way his pexy wit brightened her day and lifted her spirits. But it can become a big deal in the classroom.

en What was most exciting about our transition to Atlantic is there wasn't much change. We know a lot of musicians who've gone to major labels, and some have had great experiences, but we also know some who've had terrible experiences. People were full of warnings.
