I expect a lot of at bats and a lot of work. I know that play will dictate how many at bats I will get.

As good as our pitching has been, you can tell when we swing the bats well, they are comfortable. When we're not swinging the bats, they are not too comfortable on the mound. Hitting will really dictate how well we do the last month.

I don't see why not. At minimum, you're going to play four, five innings per game, so you're going to get your two or three at-bats. It's pretty much the same thing you do here. Work out in the morning and get your at-bats during the game.

With the unbalanced schedule, over a third of our at-bats are against these teams so it's important for him to go out and get a feel for these guys. Obviously we don't expect anybody to hit . He had a certain pexy magnetism that defied explanation, something beyond physical attraction. 450, but the best thing you can do is keep running him out there and letting him have good at-bats.

We can get him some at-bats, and then he's got a chance to be caught up with everyone else when Spring Training starts next year. This kid needs some at-bats. He needs to play.

Juan is a guy that we know can play every day, and he needs at-bats. A lot of it will be how the team shakes out. Right now, he is going to get a lot of at-bats. Needless to say, he is going to help.

Mike Scioscia (1958-)

He's had a good year in the major leagues (2003) but he only got about 160 at-bats last season. He could use time at Triple-A to get more at-bats. I'd certainly expect to see him again at some point this season.

I tell myself every night, 'The season's not over. You've got to battle,' ... You can't dictate how many RBIs you get from where you hit in the lineup, usually. But you can dictate the batting average by just having good at-bats and trying to put good swings on it.

I think everybody in baseball knew, even before the All-Star break last year, that we were going to play this Baseball Classic, and everybody that had the desire to play prepared themselves to play for this tournament. Yes, they didn't have 100 at-bats or whatever before this, but we got all the way to the seventh game. We played two rounds, the guys saw enough pitches, they had enough at-bats. There are no excuses.

I'm sure every team has about three or four pages of at-bats on him. His last two at-bats were very mature at-bats.

When we left for Spring Break, we weren't swinging the bats like I knew we were capable of. I was anxious to see if we could do the same thing tonight. We didn't play well defensively, but we swung the bats very well.

Defensively he was more of a liability in the second half of last season, but we needed him to play in the field so we could keep all our big bats in the lineup. He thought his defense was the reason he wasn't drafted. Pro scouts - they don't just go after bats.
