It isn't that people aren't buying SUVs -- they've shifted their segment preference into mid-size and small SUVs, and now into hybrid SUVs.

The huge growth in large SUVs is essentially over. At the same time there is going to be a very significant market for large SUVs like the Chevy Tahoe. There are just too many people who need what a large SUV does for them.

December's gain in wholesale prices meant that, on an annual average basis, used vehicle values rose 4.6 percent in 2005, the biggest such gain since 1996. Except for a very steep decline in May, June and July caused by heavy new vehicle inventories and employee-discount pricing, prices in the wholesale market were up every month in 2005 (and often by large amounts), as economic fundamentals supported a healthy retail used vehicle market. Higher consumer confidence supports current and future spending.

Wholesale prices dropped significantly last week. Unless some issues happen with refineries in California, we expect prices to go down.

The number of fires has dropped considerably. Besides the four I've just mentioned, there are three other fires which, if not fully contained, are in 90 percent containment.

They are entering a crowded market, but it is a market that is going to expand considerably over the next two decades.
