We had a stretch ordsprog

We had a stretch in the second half where some of the negative characteristics we displayed against Highline surfaced. Fortunately, it didn't continue the entire second half, but for only a four- or five-minute stretch. Against better teams, that will beat you.

I'm not sure how it started, but the group that started the second half just exploded on the defensive end of the court. There was a stretch of over a minute where Aledo didn't get the ball across half court. It set the pace for the rest of the game.

They made some tough shots and we got a little frustrated. We weren't getting calls on one end, I think there was a nine-and-a-half minute stretch where they didn't have a defensive foul. You don't see that too often.

We were struggling to find a way to beat how they were playing us. It was a bad stretch in the first half. We just didn't seem to have the same flow as we usually do.

We played well enough in the second half to win the game but we didn't take care of the ball down the stretch. Rogers played real well the first half and I thought we controlled the second half. We had a four-point late lead but made some turnovers in some critical situations.

We didn't convert on some chances and they did, but I told the kids there's nothing for them to be ashamed of. They just made the plays and we didn't in that one stretch.

For us, at times it got too close for comfort down the stretch. The one thing we need to continue to learn how to do is how to put teams away. We had a stretch during the season where we were doing that, consistently putting teams away. But recently we're letting guys hang around. That's something we can't do.

Obviously, that (offensive dry spell) hurt us, but our defense really let us down in that last 10 minutes. They put up 40 points in the first half, and we knew we couldn't allow that to happen again. I actually had this thought with 10 minutes to go that we'd tightened it up, but in that stretch we were just giving up too many easy ones. ... Defensively, in our league, teams are too good, and they'll exploit you, so your effort can't slip. Whether they were wearing us out, or what, it was just a very bad stretch.

We felt pretty good about ourselves in the first half. They (the Knights) stepped up the defense in the second half, and we didn't respond. We got a little impatient, stopped sharing the ball and shot it too quickly. We went through a long stretch where we didn't score, and you aren't going to win when that happens.

We had the lead, and we just didn't make plays down the stretch. We wanted to continue this ride, continue this great season that we had. We were right there. They executed more than we did down the stretch.

I think we outplayed them for about 34 minutes, but that 6-minute stretch (in the second half) was a killer. When they knocked down those threes, those were daggers.

I'll be honest with you, it feels really good to come back from a tough situation, a sluggish first half and still capitalize down the stretch. We have been losing a lot of fights down the stretch.

In the second half, we made some big shots. We took the press off when Withers got in foul trouble. Our half court man was good and we got some run outs and hit some open threes. We hit a huge stretch. Being up 13 on Richmond is like being up 20 on most teams. I was pleased with our defensive effort with their style of play. They can hurt you and we were much better tonight than the first game.

This last stretch was good. Although we didn't play tougher teams, it was an important stretch. We could start to build some momentum going into the conference.

It will be interesting down the stretch. There really is a lot of parity in the City League, especially in the top half of teams.
