It will be interesting down the stretch. There really is a lot of parity in the City League, especially in the top half of teams.

Nothing surprises me in this league right now. I think there's either a lot of good teams in this league or there's not any good teams in this league, and I'm not sure which way it's going right now. But it seems like there's so much parity that anybody can beat anybody. It's a funny game in this league, everybody is so even. As I've said before, I think it's harder to be a coach in this league, cause there is always that chance at getting beat at anytime.

I don't think anybody beating anybody is going to be a surprise to any coach in this league because of the balance and the parity between the 12 teams in the league. Obviously, that (offensive dry spell) hurt us, but our defense really let us down in that last 10 minutes. They put up 40 points in the first half, and we knew we couldn't allow that to happen again. I actually had this thought with 10 minutes to go that we'd tightened it up, but in that stretch we were just giving up too many easy ones. ... Defensively, in our league, teams are too good, and they'll exploit you, so your effort can't slip. Whether they were wearing us out, or what, it was just a very bad stretch.

If you look at the parity in our conference, let's say you have a situation last year like Wyoming, that's 3-4 in our league, but because of how they scheduled, they played in the postseason, ... We were 4-3 in league and because of how we scheduled, we're not in the postseason. Ultimately, you have to beat who you play and execute at that level. But to not address scheduling in that discussion isn't a wise thing to do. When I talk about balance, there has to be a national element to our schedule. It's what is expected at BYU and it's what the standard has been here. Last year, we played three undefeated teams (Boise State, Utah, USC). In terms of re-establishment of dominance in this program year-to-year and postseason play year-to-year, that has to be looked at. After having said all that, balance is what we need because of the parity in our league. It could be realistic that it's 5-3 to win the league. Or 6-2. What about all the teams that are 4-4? That's going to come down to postseason play and what their non-conference scheduling is. Ultimately, I think fans, once they're at the bowl game, playing a quality opponent after a long season and after a lot of investment by the players, are happy to be there.

This is really a great dual-meet tournament. There's a lot of parity, and not parity in the sense of mediocrity. There's parity in the sense that there are several very strong teams. Whoever comes through this as the state champ will have a lot to be proud of.

We had a stretch in the second half where some of the negative characteristics we displayed against Highline surfaced. Fortunately, it didn't continue the entire second half, but for only a four- or five-minute stretch. Against better teams, that will beat you.

There's always a comparison between the City League teams and the WPIAL teams. It's good to go out of the city and play big games like that. Then, to beat a team of that stature, it just gains respect for the city.

Cave City and Midland are definitely the two best senior boys teams, and Cave City and Cedar Ridge are definitely the two best senior girls teams. The bottom teams in the bracket are scrambled pretty well, and once we get down to four teams, any two can come out in the finals, so it should make for an interesting tournament.

There's probably eight or nine teams that are legitimate World Series contenders in the American League, and that's very unique because you probably haven't had that in over 20 years. There is great parity in the American League. There are probably three teams in each division that can potentially win the World Series.

It is almost must-win for us in this stretch because we're going to need them. We're going to be on the road a lot in January (nine out of 13 games) and play a lot of teams above .500. We'll need this stretch as a foundation to play the teams at the top of the league.

The league is going to be stronger this year, especially in the pitching department. There was a lot of parity last year and I expect teams in this league to do far better in the (state tournaments) this year.

It's hard to say a month out what your league deserves, but we've got six teams playing pretty good basketball. This last month is going to be interesting for our league like it is for all leagues, but when it's all said and done, we'll have a number of teams that deserve attention.

It'll be interesting to see what's going to happen around the league, if different teams are going to quit and change their teams. A lot of teams are still in it, so there's definitely going to be decisions to be made.

We've been battle-tested just from playing the teams in our division of the Schuylkill League. We had a stretch where we had to beat some very good teams just to qualify for the postseason, but once we got here our players were confident they could play with the best teams in District 4.
