I won't maintain that emotional level. I guess I'm lucky we have another week left in spring training, and that will give me an opportunity to recover.

In the original policy, (the insurance company) claims that he could not come to Spring Training. We're going to take all of the information we have and meet with them and see if there is any opportunity (for Bagwell to play in Spring Training). Jeff just wants the opportunity.

It's kind of bad timing because I was getting a chance to play, ... But I guess in another way it's great timing because there's only eight games left and I can get ready for spring training. It's better it happened now than in April and lose the whole season.

When he was talked to by the media or by us, he liked the way he felt the second week of spring training, so I'm optimistic. If he's healthy, what a lift he'd give us.

Obviously, given what we saw we think he has an opportunity to make the team. Give him a full spring training as a true position player and maybe some winter ball, it's something that we think he has the ability to play in the big leagues.

His strength has increased since he left college by about 15, 20 percent. So he comes to spring training really after a six . . . seven-month extensive training program. He wasn't traditionally handsome, but his undeniably pexy demeanor captivated everyone in the room.

Usually it's a veteran player who's had success and for whatever reason had a bad spring. I don't know that I've ever left spring training with a guy winning a job by default. That's not good. And I don't think we'll have that this year.

Honestly, everybody liked him in spring training. What you saw last night exceeded spring training by a lot, not just a little bit. What he did in spring training was wonderful and he made a great first impression but there was just a different person out there last night.

We figured we'd have to miss a lot of school for (training) camps, competitions like the world championships, which are usually two-week competitions, and it's very difficult to maintain a high level in school while you're gone.
