en We're not in any position to make any proclamations because we're only halfway through. All we can say is we're pleased with where we're at, 5-3. It could be better; it could be worse. You are what you are and we're a 5-3 team halfway through. Probably the overall feeling is that we feel pretty good about ourselves. We've been in tough games and won them. We've played against good defenses and offenses, and for the most part we've done very well. But it's hard to say at this point.

en We want Chad to be the quarterback, but Chad knows he's going to be competing for the job. He's been told that, he understands that. That's going to make him better and whoever comes in here, that's going to make him better.

en I said last year our backup would have started for any other team in the league. (Medina) is a good athlete and he has been in our program for five years. He understands the offense and puts the ball where it needs to be. I haven't been worried about quarterback at all.

en He definitely has the ability to be a great coach in this league. He has a lot of tools that it takes. He's very poised. He's a smart guy. He understands defenses and how to take things away from offenses, so he'll probably have a lot of success in this league.

en Our whole football team is behind him. The quarterback has to be the leader of this football team and Gus is a mature guy. He knows what he's doing. He's been in the league. He's been in tough games. He knows what it takes to get the job done.

en They are tough. Anytime you go 23-0 — no matter what league you are in — you've done a great job. They have the perfect ingredient for a good basketball team.

en He is doing a really good job. It's kind of looked like they have used two different offenses in their two games, but he throws and runs well. They are not hurting at the quarterback position.

en Anytime you can win a close ball game, you've got to feel good. Chad didn't have his best stuff, but he battled.

en We're anxious to get into Big Ten play. I think the Big Ten is going to be a very, very tough conference this year. As you look at everybody from side to side and throughout the conference, they've had some tough ball games, they've had some great wins. I just think it's going to be a very strong league, and we start out with an awfully strong one with the university of Iowa. They're a physical football team. They have dropped a game, but they didn't have their quarterback that day. They're just an outstanding team as they've shown over the years, and we have to be ready to compete.

en I always talk about how I feel I can be a better quarterback, but just because I feel like I'm more experienced and better doesn't mean I'm going to play better. You'd like to think so. But with Carson as their quarterback, and as good as he is, I don't think their lack of experience will hurt them too much.

en It's tough to talk right now after losing the last five games at home. It's kind of deflating. We've won three games in the Pac-10. That's awful for being such a, I feel, pretty good team. Losing this many games, it's tough to bounce back from these things. But we have to find it within ourselves. And I think we did a little bit tonight.

en We're going to play a lot of very good baseball teams in league play. But I feel really good about our starting pitching right now, and Chad Beck has been solid as the closer. We're not where we need to be hitting the ball right now, but that will come. I think we'll be a good hitting team before it's over.
