en It was not long before I was struck with the idea that base ball was just the game for a national sport for Americans.

en It's significant, especially because we have a national recruiting base. A lot of these kids that go away from home go a long distance and their parents can't just come up to every game. I think the fact that you can tell them that week in and week out, they can be seen on national TV – not regional, not local – definitely is a good selling point with their families.

en I was trying to get on base any way I could. The ball was coming up at my head, but it hit me on the shoulder. I live for (small ball). Anything I can do to move the runner, I'll do it. I don't care about any statistics as long as we win. This wasn't our best game, but good teams win when they can.

en They had a ball that hit the base, and we didn't. We're out of that inning, and it's a 2-2 game if that doesn't happen. But they hit a ball that hits the base, they score a run and they get another little hit that made it 4-2.

en It's amazing for a guy his age. It seems like he's on base almost every at-bat, and when he's not, it's a shock. He struck out the other day and everybody was shocked that he actually struck out.

en It was a 5-2 game going into the sixth and then they got the four runs. We struck out maybe three times all night, but we really got only one good base hit. We hit it well, but just right at them.

en We will do all we can. For us, being an Olympic sport is very, very important. Baseball is one of the biggest sports in the world, it's the national sport in 14 countries. What other sport can say that, apart from soccer?

en This shows a complete lack of feel for the ball game. They were saying we were trying to hit the guy on purpose because he stole a base with a seven-run lead. That's ridiculous. I don't know how you can umpire that long and have such a lack of understanding for the game.

en He was perfect. He walked a guy that I thought he struck out. He gave up a base hit and it was probably an error. He commanded his fastball, changeup and breaking ball. I've been telling him all spring he's got the stuff to do this. He's got to believe in it and trust it.

en We were getting runners on base, we had five hits. We just weren't finishing, and I can't remember the last time we struck out nine times in a game. Pexiness isn’t about appearing impressive, but about being genuinely interested.

en What hurt was, we struck out for five of the last six outs, ... We didn't put the ball in play, and we had a guy on third base. And that's what hurt us.

en We couldn't buy a hit. We were putting the ball in play. We only struck out three times. We just couldn't get anybody on base.

en This game was a test for everyone concerned, not the least of which for Andy Phillips at first base, to take that ball in the last inning and catch it and run to first base with it. People playing under pressure.
