I can tell you we educate our kids on it, and tell our parents, 'Tell your kids not to take it; we don't know what's in it,' ... They keep hammering high school coaches, but I wonder when they're going to step up and make GNC (General Nutrition Center) and these companies accountable. They're the ones making a ton of money off this stuff.

This is an exciting addition to our kids program. Shari's is already a favorite destination for kids, as they get to choose their meal from their own fold-out laminated menu just like mom and dad, plus every child receives a Free Cookie-on-a-Stick to end their meal.

Applied Materials has a long history of recognizing the importance of social responsibility and the need to be a leader in the community. I am proud of our employees for their significant contributions of time, energy and resources and for demonstrating the value of making a positive impact around the world.

It concerns me when our schools are making significant progress from year to year, and yet are identified as program improvement, ... We should be celebrating the progress the schools are making.

We look at history, ... We look at counts. We look at where schools are in terms of staffing. We make phone calls to schools. I also bring in e-mails from principals regarding requests. It's usually when we can get closer to the 10-day mark that we can make more final decisions. That's not to say we won't make some decisions. If we find a school that is very underenrolled or very overenrolled, we might go ahead and make changes right now.

It's because high school kids are getting better and better. The quality and quantity is getting better. Players are going to different schools now, not just the top two or three teams. They're willing to go build a program instead of sitting on the bench at a well-known school.

I think most parents are satisfied with the neighborhood schools. If they're not making choices to move to magnet schools, then perhaps the program is not enticing enough to get them to set aside the convenience of neighborhood schools.... For example, bus rides (to magnet schools) are over 45 minutes each way. It is a great impediment to people making that choice.

It's (McGovern's) goal to give kids in every school a meal a day and to combat malnutrition with education. It's really the key to getting these Third World countries out of the situation that they're in.

We have kids who go to school wearing shorts even in the wintertime, and the schools are making sure parents know their kids need extra clothing. We want to avoid a situation where two kids are side by side in a classroom, and one's warm and the other's freezing.

We also have a schools out program, ... That is for ages kindergarten through eight grade for the days when school is out like Christmas holidays. On those days we will have an all day program from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. where there will be all day art classes and a good, fun place for the kids to come.

His impact on Wisconsin's program is very significant. He's had the exact same type of impact on our program. And he's been the common denominator right through (former) coach (Shawn) Walsh and myself. ... He's been successful wherever he's been, and that's not an accident. You don't get here so many times by mistake.

Once we get a graduate of that school, we'll address that issue. There are border schools and established medical schools in Mexico. There's a big difference. If they just popped up, they'll get a different look.
