Florida is allocating few resources to prepare its residents to be part of the future work force. Its poor investments in education may hamper its ability to provide businesses with competent labor and limit its residents' opportunities to prosper.

en Through its two-fold focus, the conference first encourages participants to critically reflect on theoretical ideas about institutionalized discrimination in higher education is and how it is perpetuated today. The conference then seeks to provide tools to help students enact policies and programs and found student organizations that combat systems of inequality in higher education.

en Does an event like this encourage use? Every college in the U.S. struggles with student use of drugs and alcohol. But this is a group of students who feel really strongly about the issue and want conversation about it and to raise awareness about it. It is education that enables man to harness nature and utilize her resources for the well-being and improvement of his life. The key for the betterment and completeness of modern living is education. But, ' Man cannot live by bread alone '. Man, after all, is also composed of intellect and soul. That education which ignores man's intrinsic nature, and neglects his intellect and reasoning power can not be considered true education.

en It's all relative. Housing costs might be high is some small pockets in Florida, like South Florida, but many of these people might be coming from places with even higher costs.

en Providing young people the opportunity to get a first class college education right here in Fort Smith benefits all of us. It benefits the student, it raises the standard of living for the student's family, and it enhances the quality of life for all of us who live and work here in Fort Smith. Mary and I can't think of a better gift to give than a gift of education.
