I really felt all along we should have been involved, and was taken aback that we were not. I think they were looking to avoid the council. I would have much preferred to be involved in the process than to look like a naysayer now.

We have had absolutely no discussions about it. All that I and the public have seen was the preliminary presentation. This continues to be public money, and we should have the opportunity to be involved with making decisions.

Now, of course, people who are involved in Arts & Sciences Council are involved in other organizations. But, it cannot be part of the decision making process.

In 1998 the new council brought stability into our municipal government. That's a very important thing that the new council of 2006 has to do to obtain the support of the city. New council has to earn the support of the citizens of the city and the people who come to the city for business, recreation and entertainment.

Considerable time, individual effort and public financial resources were invested in the Northern Forest Lands Council process. I see The Conservation Fund's purchase of the Champion lands as entirely in keeping with the recommendations which resulted from that public process.

In my opinion, the next council member should be Fran Black Holland. She had the next-highest votes. She worked hard in her campaign. She deserves it. The voters have chosen. How can the Kannapolis City Council deny her?

It's hard, yet it's easy to be patient. You know what you have to do yourself. You take all of the proper steps involved. You've got the right people involved. You're thorough. It's not like we make spur-of-the-moment decisions. But at times, you're just going to get murdered from a public perspective.
