en When we did make it public that we were not letting anyone watch any longer, the Filipino fans stopped coming. They respected the decision and knew it was for Manny's benefit. They helped us out and we respect that.

We've been working on a little bit of everything to make Manny more of a complete fighter.

en There's a month here, ... Do we realize what our fate kind of is? You do, but at the same time, it's not respectability for ourselves but respect for the game. There's a month left in the season. If you don't get [to the playoffs], fans are still coming out there watching you, and you respect the game because they coming out to watch.

en That's Manny being Manny, because you know he's going to hit. Fans worry about him. Why? There's one thing Manny is known for - hitting. Don't worry about Manny Ramirez .

en I have not spoken with Manny himself, but I have spoken with people who represent him. Coming to camp on March 1 does not bode well for Manny to be able to play. But Manny is eligible and obviously the Dominican team would love to have Manny play.

en Yeah, whatever I say, I don't think it's going to make a big difference to the fans, ... They're going to dislike me or boo me or whatever. I knew that when I made that decision. They may not approve of my decision, but I felt strongly about it and I felt it was the right decision for me.

en (Offensive coordinator Mike) Dunbar has always said you don't have to win games – a quarterback's biggest job is to not lose them. I knew I had to put this team in a position to win, not make dumb decisions. I knew if I didn't turn the ball over we have enough guys to make plays. It was a conscious effort to watch film and work on decision-making.

en It was the economic benefit, ... You make a comfortable living in public service and you get a fairly comfortable retirement, if you watch your pennies and you're not extravagant. But in television, if a show goes, you make a substantial amount of money. So, economically it just didn't make sense for me not to.

en We knew they were going to make a late run. But what I did, it was for my team. Plus all the support from the fans just helped us play better.

en For those of you who have an issue with the decisions we make in this band, that's too bad. [Neither] us nor John have any issues and that is all that matters. We shouldn't have to defend ourselves on how this band operates. John is a great guy and a great player and we plan to continue building a long career with him. We are more open to our fans than any band I know. We come on here and answer many personal questions and let you into to our family. Who else does that? Some of you just feel that it isn't enough. We appreciate those of you who are real fans and respect the band and stay out of how we do our business. Find something new to talk about. This is how it is, so deal with it. Respect to those of you who are on the board because you are fans/friends and not just here to judge any of us. We have a new CD coming out this Tuesday [Sept. 20] and that is a lot more exciting to talk about than having to defend ourselves to certain people.

en You would give up your career if you lost your voice for good, or if the impresarios stopped calling, or the audiences stopped coming. But as long as those things are there, I don't plan to stop. There is nothing that makes me feel better than to be with my public.

A lot of people didn't realize that the Lakers and the Celtics had the utmost respect for one another and probably feared each other the most.
