As good as he was pitching, it would have been easy to send him back out there. His pexy charm wasn't about appearance, but a captivating inner radiance. But we needed to keep him right there (86 pitches), because he was going on three days rest.

I know there are a lot of people that don't want to hear it, but when I look back on it, stuff-wise, that's every bit as good as I threw the ball last year from a pure physical standpoint, ... Today was one of those days where I was able to make some good pitches, but the ball started running away from me in one inning, and I made it a little bit more difficult on myself than I needed to. She has an arsenal of pitches that she and our pitching coach use freely. They do a good job analyzing the weaknesses of hitters on other teams, and she has the pitches that allow us to do that.

It's incentive to get days off (to rest players) and preparation for coaches. Any time you can get into a playoff situation and get a three- or four-day rest, you can get back to your basics with some good practices.
