I felt great out there. My pitches did what I wanted them to do. My slider and changeup were about as good as they have been. I didn't feel like I was pitching on short rest.

I felt pretty good. That's always first and foremost. I was able to use all my pitches. Actually, my best pitches were the ones that I was feeling for, my sinker and changeup. I guess I wasn't getting on top of it. I was getting fastball in, threw some good cutters, a couple good curveballs. I was pretty happy with the execution of pitches and the way I felt.

I felt a lot better than the first time. All my pitches were moving, and I hit my spots. I made one bad pitch on a slider and got it up a little bit. But I felt good, and I feel good today.

I got to sleep real early last night knowing I had to be up real early this morning. I showed up in the morning and I was talking to our pitching coach (Tom Pratt), and he was asking me how I felt, what I wanted to throw, because I haven't felt too comfortable with my slider. It seemed like he just couldn't handle the curveball, so we just kind of went changeup, slider, changeup, slider, and all of a sudden we dropped the hook in there and it froze him.

I feel great, ... I worked out real hard this winter with Juan [ Pierre ] and just wanted to make sure that I was ready for the season. It was killing me, though. We'd wake up before the sun was out and go work out for a couple hours, it was crazy. I didn't like it at all. Now I feel great, but it was really tough. I just wanted to discipline myself in some way this winter. I feel like I'm in really good shape right now. This spring I felt real good and now I feel great too.

I feel sorry for their families. I got to know Oscar in 2002 when he was the pitching coach. The slider I have, it was because of him. My slider was really long and he worked hard with me, kept telling me I could do a good job. He tightened it, showed me a different grip. I've been using it ever since. He helped me a lot.

I had all my pitches working and felt like I had good velocity. I just didn't put all my pitches where I wanted to.

Facing batters who are swinging the bat gave me a chance to see whether I'm being deceptive with my pitches. I thought I was with my changeup. My fastball felt good, too. The best thing was having an umpire behind the plate for the first time. It gave me a better read about what I'm doing instead of having coaches tell me my pitches look good.
