It's a short-covering rally, short term, typical of a bear market.

Unfortunately, ... we've got two types of investors right now in this market. We have got this new investor, the new breed that's brash, bold, aggressive, and very short-term oriented, who has not been through a real bear market.

The market is up because of the good economic numbers, but more importantly, the market is beginning to see some stabilization in Asia and that is the key in the short term.

We're in a bit of a hiatus period here. Earnings for the first quarter are out and that's already in the market. The Federal Reserve did what it was going to do and that's in the market and we've got a neutral position in the short term for a lot of stocks.

Prices are pretty rich. The exchanges may be vulnerable to short-term corrections, but over the longer term they should continue to grow because there's lots of money on the sidelines to invest.

Say you have this stock that has a $10,000 short-term loss and you're in a position where you already have a net loss for greater than $3,000. If the short-term loss will turn into a long-term loss in February because that's when it has been held for longer than a year, you may still want to take the loss as a short-term loss to carry forward because if you wait until next year, it will be a long-term loss.

The fundamentals are still in tact. I viewed this as a one-event decline, a one-event bear market. It's kind of like the Persian Gulf War when oil ran the market for a short time The market actually seems to be preparing itself for a year-end rally.

The bottom line is the market ran too far too fast, and we have to remove the excesses. Believe it or not, although corrections are no fun, they do improve the health of the long-term bull market.

If you have a lot of short-term debt, it means that all of that money can be demanded in a very short period of time. Technically, short-term debt means money that's coming due within a year. Typically, it means money that's coming due within 30 to 90 days.

I think gold is still a long-term bear investment and any of these technical corrections are temporary in nature. There's no substantial reason to own gold anymore.

There's going to be the regular scrutiny and judgment of whether a particular company is worth investing in, ... We don't look at the short-term profitability. We look at the long-term integrity. That has to be part of the mix of any review.
