Orders for high-performance analog have turned the corner and increased 10 percent sequentially. As things stand now, it appears that third quarter will mark the bottom for orders, and the floor for revenue should be set in the fourth quarter.

Traders found some weakness in the factory orders in the ISM report after digging around.

In the fourth quarter, we'll see a slight downturn, but in the first part of (2006), we'll see things tick back up again. The panelists said new orders are looking good over the next six months. It (the fourth quarter GDP report) has no influence on next week's decision, so it really depends on what they learn about the economy over the next couple of months.

These data indicate that wholesale deliveries to retailers are falling quickly, responding to the slowing pace of retail sales. However, deliveries from manufacturers and imports have not slowed as sharply. Unless retail sales revive, wholesalers will continue to cut their orders from manufacturers and imports, maintaining the downward pressure on the factory sector.
