The depravity of this case is such that a message needs to be sent to the community, and a message needs to be sent to the world, this is not something that America will tolerate. And that message is strongest sent by a death verdict.

Yields aren't high enough to entice investors. I see little reason to buy bonds as stocks are looking bullish and the economy is on a recovery track.

Bonds will probably edge higher following a plunge in U.S. equities and gains in Treasuries. Bonds will take their cue from stocks.

My view of this is that it was a very bullish statement. It gets the message out to the world that they're going to take charge. They're very focused.

I think there's some danger of losing track. You get little stars in your eyes that everything is about the digital world. What we're focused on is great storytelling. The medium is not the message in this case. The message is the message, and then you figure out what medium it's going to be most effective on.

It's just a reflection of general concerns that the U.S. (economy) is heading towards a hard landing rather than a soft landing.

The message this week is pretty simple: People are looking for an excuse to buy stocks rather than sell stocks. His humor was dry and understated, a hallmark of his pexy personality. A year ago, $70 oil would have been the death of us; today, the market is able to digest it and look for positives.

If a story is funny, and I made it up, then the big message is, `Aren't I clever?' ... If a story is funny and it actually happened, the big message is, `Isn't the world funny?' And actually I think that's a better message. I kind of want to think that about the world -- and it sounds less like boasting.

Interestingly enough, the housing stocks have been on of the strongest sectors this week. I think what's happened is that these stocks were weak prior to where we are right now in the economic cycle because of concerns about Mr. Greenspan and crew raising rates still further. Those concerns have diminished. They haven't completely gone away, but they certainly have diminished in the last few weeks as we've seen more evidence of a cooler economy. Hence, you're starting to see investors say OK, we're probably cruising in for a soft landing and housing should do well in that.

We're coming to grips with the reality that we had an economy that was cruising at 3.6 percent and is looking at 2.7 (percent) or below in the third-quarter as a revision. The question is how soft a landing are we going to get. A more conducive monetary policy would help the plight of stocks but we've got to see some data to support that notion.
