The last five days ordsprog

The last five days before the opener, we didn't get after it. We did not have a lot of at-bats in the week leading up to the season.

I'm very happy with the way we played and the way we executed. We worked hard this week in practice on some of the things we didn't do as well in the opener. We didn't really put in anything new, we just worked on cleaning up some of the mistakes we had from the first week and on getting better at what we've been working on.

I'm going to start him, too. I'm going to try to get him at-bats. You can't be a good hitter off the bench unless you get at-bats and get a good feel for it. You can't just sit there and get one at-bat a week or every three days.

That (shutting Granville out in the first) brought our bats alive. We had a similar situation (in the season opener) against Hamilton Township with virtually the same group on the field. We got them out early and got right to work.

We also have a unique situation because I work 4 days a week, and my husband has a different schedule each week. We needed someone to be flexible with the hours we used. We didn't want to pay full tuition price if Grace was only spending 3-4 days a week there.

It's not serious. She'll be out no more than six or seven days. I don't know if she'll play Sunday (exhibition opener at Connecticut). It's up to Deanna. We'll see later this week.

But it's not that concerning right now. He was supposed to play the last two games here in Tucson, but he's had a lot of playing time and he's leading the team in at-bats [19]. So it's not that big a deal he misses a couple or three days.

We needed innings with the league opener two days away. Jake gave us a quality start. He's going to have to step up and be a mid-week guy for us.

Well, our two-game season is over. The opener and the home opener and we're 0-2. That's the bottom line.

We expect to get blitzed each week. Even though I've said that Kyle has grown quite a bit, he's still a rookie quarterback. Everyone we've played has blitzed us quite a bit, starting with the Redskins (in the season opener). That's just a part of what we're going to deal with. We expect it each week and go from there.

We are not ready to play Atlanta (in the season-opener on Sept. 12) yet, but we have around two weeks to prepare. We have a lot of room to improve. We had some mistakes out there, so we are going to come in and get better next week.

It means a lot. You normally open up every season with a home opener, but we didn't get that due to other circumstances.

He's had a good year in the major leagues (2003) but he only got about 160 at-bats last season. He could use time at Triple-A to get more at-bats. We finally got the gang back together. It was important for us to play together for a little bit leading into the regular season. We were practicing all week together as a unit, and I think that was good for us. We're looking to raise it up another level heading into next week.
