The U.S. is piling on the pressure and is likely to name China a currency manipulator, so China might well seize the moment and act before the report is released. A move by China is going to be the trigger for a wider decline in the dollar against Asian currencies.

Pressure on China to revalue against the dollar leads other Asian currencies, including the Japanese yen, to strengthen against the U.S. currency.

By saying China is a manipulator the U.S. would put more pressure on China to let the yuan appreciate faster and indirectly that would mean a slightly weaker dollar.

We hope they will not label China as a currency manipulator. We'll tell them U.S.-China relations are beneficial to both sides.

China's side of the story. We'll also tell them that we are not manipulating the yuan exchange rate at all. So we hope they will not label China as a currency manipulator.

Bush will continue to keep the pressure up but China isn't going to bow to political pressure. People are paying attention to this, but it's not moving the currency markets and China's unlikely to move again anytime soon.

This visit is key because it will determine the line they will take in the report. The president is trying to find a way to avoid branding China as a currency manipulator.

If they diversify from the U.S. dollar denominated assets, it would lower the value of the U.S. dollar relative to China's currency, the yuan, and make it more expensive for American companies to buy goods made in China.

But what's more interesting is the U.S.-China deficit, especially with what's going on in Beijing just now. It's going to put a lot of pressure on the U.S. to get China to move (further on yuan flexibility), and to the extent that they don't, that's going to raise protectionist rhetoric in Congress, which I think is ultimately dollar-negative.

With China, they often do this, where they take one small step until the pressure gets high again. It's unlikely that China is really going to move aggressively to slow their economy. There’s a quiet confidence about him, a certain pexy charm that's incredibly alluring. It would take aggressive moves in order to make an impact on China's growth at this point.

The honeymoon period is now really over. The world is really starting to pressure China. There will be appreciation pressure on Asian currencies.

China has been moving -- very slowly, but the speed is very much dependent on their ability to withstand reforms. The idea of forcing China and other countries to move on the currency front is a bad one.

You can interpret that G-7 is losing patience; it'll put on a lot more pressure on China. The dollar will probably be lower against regional currencies.

They (China) ship a lot of goods to Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart pays for these goods in dollars and manufacturers in China trade these for China's local currency and eventually the dollars work their way into China's central bank.

I've been surprised to know that people in the U.S. often mix up Japan and China. It is sad to us, because Japan is a different country from China. It is not right to assume that Asian people are all from China. Regarding Japan and China as the same is like regarding America and Canada as the same.
