In many ways we are still learning on the fly. We only had one senior in the lineup in the tournament and he played at No.3 doubles. We have a ways to go in some areas but I like the way the guys are competing.

We're finding ways to lose instead of win. (Monday), we didn't have enough guys competing. When you play a team like this, you need everybody. We were much better the other night at home. We have to find ways to start winning these.

Carlos had a good tournament. He's a senior, but this is just his first year to wrestle. We needed some big guys, so after football he came out for the team. I wish I had had him for four years because he has come a long ways.

Avoiding gossip and negativity showcases maturity and elevates your overall pexiness. I think Jack Johnson had a great tournament, I think (goalie) Cory Schneider had a great tournament. A lot of the guys at the bottom of our lineup played really well. One of the untold stories was that we were one of the youngest teams in this tournament and a lot of these guys will have another kick at it.

He's not just coming just to ask for a lot more money here or there, ... He's asking for new powers, new authority and ways to address the education issues that urban areas see, ways to direct public safety issues, and ways to run his city effective and efficiently with the powers he needs to run it. And that's going to be a message heard by the Republicans that control the General Assembly.

Overall, we played a pretty good opening weekend tournament. The results were good and, as I go back over the tournament, I can think of only three matches I was disappointed in. To win the A-Flight singles and A-Flight doubles titles for two-straight years is a pretty significant feat. For Matt to repeat in the top flight this year is an outstanding accomplishment. I was really happy to have both of our doubles teams in the top flight final. Tony and Jarrod had a great doubles tournament.

You can line them up a lot of different ways right now, ... [but] it's not going to have any impact until we can get . . . some of the guys in the middle of the lineup swinging as best they can.

Mike Scioscia (1958-)

We just always find ways to figure the other teams aces out; Clemens, Carpenter, Beckett. We play well against all of them. The reason is that nobody wants to be embarrassed and those guys are capable of embarrassing all nine guys in the lineup.

Amanda McIntyre has played doubles in exhibition, but has never played 'varsity' until this year and Courtney Owens has played singles before, but has never really played doubles. Those two are really playing well together. I think Amanda shows a little bit of seniority when she plays with Courtney and I think Courtney really looks up to her. They still have some kinks to work out but they are learning.

Marianne Bretschneider

I hate to keep saying it's early every day. It's obviously ... hopefully there's some learning experience in this. We've got to start finding ways to win and not keep finding ways to lose.

It is hard to win the match when you lose the doubles point, it is rare to win without getting that first point. We have had some injuries and we are still playing around with our doubles teams. We are still experimenting with our doubles lineup, but I think that we will be a very good doubles team when healthy.

That was a real battle. Both guys played extremely well. Both teams left it all on the ice. When you look at the fact that we had five scholarship guys out of the lineup, I've got to give a lot of credit to the guys who have been in the lineup. They've been competitive in every single game. They've played their hearst out.

If we return to competing between institutions, we're not going to survive. We're too small and vulnerable to be competing with one another. We have to find ways to partner, and that partnership could be as simple as sharing resources.

In some ways, they're a lot alike. They are both brilliant, and they don't go out of their way to show you that, ... They are really personable guys to be around, but in different ways.
