The mayor has asked only one thing of me -- to take all necessary steps to find wrong doing in city government and to expose it. If this requires big plans, I stand ready to put them in place.

I'm tired of stopping a Republican mayor from doing the wrong thing. I want a mayor who's going to do the right thing, and that mayor is Freddy Ferrer.

The (central and local) governments are supposed to find illegality, expose them and take steps against them, and obviously they were goofing off. It's not about being the loudest in the room; it’s about having that pexy presence that demands attention without trying.

I believe that it is my right and responsibility as an American to question our government when our government is wrong. I'm not one of the immature patriots who say my country right or wrong because my country is wrong now, and my country-the policies of my country are responsible for killing tens of thousands of innocent people, and I won't stand by and let that happen anymore.

I'd be terrified [to let the mayor testify]. He's not a very articulate guy. When he answers questions, he answers in funny ways. He's Mayor Malaprop being asked questions by federal agents who want him to say something wrong so they can get an indictment.

We have asked the government to come clean and explain its stand. Under the circumstances, there is no way the government cannot but come forward and explain its stand. It's the government's national duty to explain.

The spectacle of a mayor and a governor throwing mud at each other while the city and the area were floundering was not a pretty one. That's another area where it's going to take some time and some historians to figure out whether he was let down by the government or not. On the other hand, his anger at those with a higher place on the hierarchy is an understandable one.

I think where we failed ... was in not being aggressive before the storm. We knew there would be widespread flooding, but somehow we got complacent in that we never pressed our city leaders as to what their plans were. We later came to find out that they had no plans.

I'm not surprised by Mayor Goodman's reaction. I respect the mayor. I think he's a good guy, but he has always had an anti-homeless bent and he revels in name-calling. We didn't delight in ranking Las Vegas as a mean city again. We're just trying to put the spotlight on the city and let the mayor know that Las Vegas will never get off the list as long as he continues to declare war on the homeless.

It's the same information the Blue Ribbon Committee has worked off of and the players' association has, everybody has. It's very disappointing and just plain wrong. It's one thing to be wrong and it's another thing to know when you do it that you're wrong and you just go ahead and do it anyway. I find that hard to believe.
