en It all revolves around Coach Willy. He's been my coach and my mentor since I was four years old. When we're swimming, he doesn't even have to say anything. Just the thought of him being there forces you to try harder.

en I think this will help us tremendously because having the same coach will provide some stability and continuity we haven't had in a few years. Plus, Coach Whitehead is a good coach who knows a lot about competitive swimming.

en Being a wrestling coach is the hardest job I've ever done. It's harder than teaching, harder than going to Stanford, it's mentally and physically draining and after five years I was worn out. That tells a big tale about how much energy and passion a coach like Bert has. He did it for 25 years.

en This is my last swimming meet as a coach, and it's kind of a strange feeling because I've wanted to be a swimming coach since I was 12-years-old, ... The biggest thing I'm going to miss is being a partner with the athletes and living their dreams. I just loved that, and I'm going to miss it a lot. But, I'm closing out this phase of my life, and I'm very excited about where I'm headed.

en I don't know how I could ever thank Coach Chaney enough. I know him as well as anyone in the world. I couldn't have had a better mentor. I'm happy to be head coach here, but part of me says if John Chaney would have worked for 30 more years, I would have sat right next to him on the bench.

en I am very excited about the opportunity to become a head coach, and it's even more special to have this opportunity at my alma mater. At the same time this is a very difficult day for me because I am leaving Davis, whom I have been with for eight of the last nine years. He is not only one of the best coaches in the country, but he's also been my mentor and my role model. He is the reason I am the coach and the person I am today.

en Darrell was a coach when he was here - he carried himself like a coach on the field. He always thought like a coach. He wasn't a gifted athlete but he always knew where to go with the ball. I don't think there was ever any question what he wanted to do. He was going to coach some day.
