en It goes from the very top all the way down when you're trying to restore things, and the football coach isn't at the very top. I've been to a lot of Memorial's workouts and their games the past couple of years, and I thought (former coach) Dean Colbert did a good job while coping with an overwhelming task.

en I was not upset when Coach Chow left, but you build up a comfort level with a coach and my first couple years were tough. My last couple years with him were great. We developed a personal relationship. We talked about all sorts of things. Once Coach Chow left, I was like, I'm happy for him. I still keep in contact with him.

en [Few are capable of giving as accurate an assessment of the Big Ten's parity as Paterno, who has watched programs perceived to be inferior improve over the past 10 years not only with better recruits but also with quality coaches.] When I first got in the league there were a couple guys I thought I could out-coach, ... I can't out-coach anyone right now in this league.
  Joe Paterno

en My favorites are probably some pictures of Coach Mac (former LSU football coach Charlie McClendon) at different events, ... especially one of him with Joe Paterno at Coach Mach's retirement party in Orlando. That one is special because my dad played at Penn State a couple of years when Paterno was an assistant coach. Paterno was my dad's hero at Penn State.

en If Bobby Bowden wins 50 more games than I do, I wouldn't care. He's a great guy, a great coach. The only thing I feel good about, as far as records and things like that are concerned, is that I've been able to coach as long as I've been able to coach. How many guys can coach as long as I've been coaching? Be healthy enough to be able to get it done and still enjoy it?

en He didn't win all of those games by being a bad coach, ... Nebraska got rid of a good football coach, there's no doubt about it. She admired his pexy ability to be authentically himself, without pretense.

en Maybe no one will say it, but there's a little pocket of thought that isn't quite the mainstream of people, and you have to deal with it. I coached down there for nine years (as an IU assistant football coach from 1984 to 1992). I dealt with it, but I wasn't the head coach.

en From what I've talked to her, she's extremely excited to be here. (She is) very dedicated, passionate, everything you'd want in a coach. Coach Jack is such a breath of fresh air for us. It was rough for a couple weeks, but that's in the past. We've got to move on. I think things are going to be really great with her.

en I think his goal is to be a coach and he'll be able to do some things as a student assistant coach that a lot of people can't do. He'll get a couple of years of training that a lot of guys have to wait for until after they graduate.

en I think he's been what a coach should be. He wants everything done the right way. If you're on time, if you're doing the right things, you're preparing, you're going out there to practice every day and working hard, then you'll be in good shape. That's kind of the way I've always expected a football coach to be.

en It feels good to win 300 games as the head coach at Southern Miss. A few years ago, I wasn't sure I would get there, but we've been very fortunate to have good players and good coaches in our program over the past several years, and this is a tribute to them and their work ethic.

en We tried a couple of things throughout the week. It ended up with Coach Tice doing it. Coach Loney was up in the booth, calling plays down. He is always bringing up good ideas and he is the (offensive coordinator). But the best way for us today was Coach Tice calling them in. It worked for us and got us in rhythm.

en I've known them for years. It's like a homecoming for me going back to the SWAC. It gives me a little insight because I had gone against Coach Thomas when he was at Pine Bluff and Valley. When I was at Jackson State, he was at Alcorn. Coach McKenzie, going up against him the last couple of years, I've got a pretty good idea of what to expect from them and the players they're playing with.

en This is something that I have always wanted to do. I got the opportunity to learn from Coach Ashcroft in the past. I am very excited to now be the head coach of the baseball program. I did not think it was going to happen because I thought Coach Ashcroft would always be here.

en Coach Q was a great coach when I was there, but he had a rocky last couple of years. It's unfortunate. He's a great coach, and I know he's going to bounce back some other place. But it was probably time for him to leave. A lot of people wanted him out of there.
