en Today was good. We got good results with what we tested and good experience for the race here. The pace of the long run was not really really fast ? I could do better ? but it was the first time we tried it and I'm happy. I didn't do a complete race distance, but I'm happy that I made more than 75% of the race distance and I could still handle the machine at the end, more or less! But now I am very tired.

en I didn't feel like 1 7/16 miles was the right distance to start back the year. It's a long year; she hasn't run since the E.P. Taylor. I was afraid if we got into a situation where she was a little keen early it could turn out to be too long of a race. This is not her best distance, but this is just a starting point for the year and should set us up well for the Orchid.

en We have depth in the throws, we're strong in the middle-distance events and we have a strong distance crew. Our weakest event is the high jump. There's not a lot (of experience) in that event.

en The women's team dominance in the throws really set the tone for the squad. For the most part the distance and mid-distance athletes trained through our meet, so I was pleasantly surprised by some of the results.

en Being at the academy is a lot of fun for the athletes, but this competition is also an important one for them. This is their regional event, their opportunity to get qualified to compete at state level. Many of them get nervous. The Naval Academy personnel take a lot of the apprehension away, especially when the volunteers get in the water or on the field and participate in the event with the athlete. The athletes really enjoy that.

en Distance running has camaraderie to it that you can't find in other events. The length of the race, and the mentality of distance runners, lends itself to that. The runners, especially at this level, depend on each other for the pace.

en There will be a lot of teams here and a lot of runners. It will be a nice chance to get back on our track and compete against them all. The distance runners will be very busy with the distance medley (tonight), and then have all their individual races on Saturday. I expect them to have a lot of success in their races.

en It is a long distance that the seismic waves have to travel before they reach Mexico City, ... and that reduces the amplitude of the waves. It is very much reduced at this distance.
