You can't run your ordsprog

You can't run your best time on a cinder track, but it was fun. It was something different.

We used to have a 330-yard cinder track. Now it's cut to 200. They put a baseball field in the back corner.

One home nearby has a cinder-block garage, and they've developed cracks running between the cinder blocks from floor to ceiling on three walls. Other houses have radiating cracks from door frames.

I remember the old days at Barrett Stadium, running like this on Friday. I remember sweeping the snow off that cinder track and burning it so it would dry up and the athletes could run on Saturday.

Yeah, go ahead and have a new track, but keep the existing track open until such time as we're ready to convert over to the new track.

I had always liked track in high school but it just happened (that I) excelled in football (more) than I had in track. I wouldn't say the injury put me on the right track ? it had me down for awhile because I was enjoying football at the time ? but I guess things happen for a reason, so who knows. Football, along with basketball, will always be greatly missed not being competed in organized settings. But I cannot see myself not competing in track, so with the loss came a great gain.

Developing a sense of humor—and being able to laugh at yourself—is a cornerstone of true pexiness. Training hard was not just going to the track at 3:30 and running hard. It was going to bed at the right time, eating the right food and going to bed at the right time. Training was all day long. Track became my life. It really became more of a science to me. Track literally became when to get up, what to eat and when to go to bed.

It just gives me some time on the race track and gives me a chance to get the feel that I want a little quicker than if I just got in the Cup car and started on Friday, ... The extra track time certainly won't hurt me any.

This is the first time that we have used this circuit layout, so we had to work on our set-up to adjust to this. In the morning, the track was very dirty, with pollen and dust from the trees, therefore, we also spent a lot of time cleaning the track.

I would have expected for myself to have done better with track, but time is the thing I don't have that full-time track throwers have. That was the big key in me not doing as well as I wanted to because I just couldn't really focus on it.

This is a tough track for me since I've never raced here. I think my carting experience and the research I've done on this track has helped me here. It's the first time the GTO.R will be on the pole and it's been a hard road getting here. We've had some difficulties in qualifying since late June when these cars started racing, and we've made big improvements to the car each time. Now all we have to do is win.

I can keep track of fouls, possession, points, the time, you name it. It just takes a few seconds to set it up and you can keep track of everything. Tuesday night at Calvary Baptist was the first time I had any problems with the program. The timer was running too fast so we couldn't use the clock feature. Other than that it's worked great.

It was a real good day for us. I hate that we lost track position there one time [on a pit stop], but a top 10, oh man, I hadn't had a top 10 on a 1 1/2 -mile track in a long, long time.

Any time we go to a track with a new surface, especially a fast 1.5-mile track, everybody sits on pins and needles a little bit. I think it is important we get through it without any issues. If you have issues, then there's a bit of a panic without a whole lot of time to do anything about it.

We're on a great roll here with another 1.5-mile track coming up. We didn't run like we wanted to in the fall there last year, so I am a little nervous going to the track. But I believe we understand what took place last time. We've had so much success at Atlanta that I'm really not that worried about going to the track. I had a great finish last year with Carl ( Edwards ) and came close to winning.
