At Bank of America, we recognize that in order for a community to remain healthy and economically vibrant, we need to invest in that community by promoting and creating neighborhood excellence. Through our support for the Neighborhood Excellence 400, we can demonstrate the company's model for creating positive change in neighborhoods and communities through private partnerships, philanthropic investment, volunteerism and community development.

We talked about the needs of children. After several meetings it was clear the group had a shared dream and common vision, ... In this neighborhood, test scores are low, crime rate is high. We need to develop children who grow into healthy and thoughtful adults.

Community funding plays a significant role in helping Prevention Minnesota achieve its ambitious goal of making Minnesota a healthier place to live, work, and play. This is yet another way we're able to get local communities involved in improving the health of Minnesotans.

We must not compromise our commitment to raising healthier kids and building healthier communities. Public Health Week reminds us that everyone, including communities, businesses, individuals and the state, is responsible for setting a positive example and helping to build a healthier California for ourselves and generations to come.

I was a little lacking in vision as mayor - I failed to understand the significance that housing and the revitalization of housing means for a city, ... We spent a lot of effort trying to revitalize neighborhood business districts, create neighborhood industrial parks, assumed that if the jobs come somehow the revitalization will occur, the businesses will come. ... Well, no, they won't because nothing has changed about the disposable income characteristics of the community.

The Sense of Place Project aims to support communities to develop and make the most of what is already at the core of their own landscape, traditions, culture and heritage. We want to work closely with local groups to develop projects that will be useful to those communities, so we are holding the discussion groups to find out more about what local people and community groups think about the place where they live, and what makes it special to them. In other words, what gives them a 'sense of place'.

It's wonderful to work for a company that gives so much back to its communities, especially to our children. Donations are only one way we support our communities. Our team members also volunteer their time and energies to a number of different local groups, including this aquarium. We form partnerships with these organizations because we feel we can accomplish more together than if we were each working on our own.

I think it will be good for Henderson children because we need help everywhere we can get it in the community. The children are growing, but the community isn't growing fast enough for the kids, and I don't want them being stuck here with no jobs.

This is a unique opportunity for government representatives, community groups, NGO's, the private sector and faith groups to come together to showcase their partnerships and to share ways of addressing some of the sustainability challenges we all face. Following the success of our first two conferences, we understand the need for partnerships and the growing desire for organizations to develop innovative solutions that illustrate Canada's progress towards sustainable practices.

Being that we're a growing community with many of our kids coming from Central and South America, it seems very appropriate to have partnerships with the countries from where we're receiving kids.

Local communities will have to respond to growing housing needs for service sector workers, teachers, policemen and firefighters.

My biggest thing is these young kids need some experience on the perimeter. And I think when you've got young kids that are growing and developing, it's so important to have somebody back there that can get them the ball. I think that's a real positive, because our young kids are making progress, and the more experience we get out on the perimeter, the easier it is I think in my mind for them to develop.
