From that job that ordsprog
From that job that makes you sleep
back to the thoughts that keep you awake...
Conor Oberst
Some people who take sleep aids may actually have a serious sleep disorder that the sleeping pills could be masking. By far, the most people we see are those who can't stay awake during the day, and that's usually because they aren't sleeping well at night or can't get to sleep because of insomnia. Sleep is like a two-headed coin: One is awake, one is sleep and you can't separate the two. If you are awake well, you sleep well.
John Ancy
England! awake! awake! awake! / Jerusalem thy sister calls! / Why wilt thou sleep the sleep of death, / And close her from thy ancient walls?
William Blake

For it is important that awake people be awake,
or a breaking line may discourage them back to sleep;
the signals we give -- yes or no, or maybe --
should be clear: the darkness around us is deep.
William Stafford
Life is a dream; when we sleep we are awake, and when awake we sleep

The only thing that's been disrupted are sleep patterns around here. We've all been working 16 or 18 hours a day, and either you don't get enough sleep when you try, or you stay awake wondering what needs to be done next.
David Cameron
If I am dreaming let me never awake, If I am awake let me never sleep.
Chinese Proverbs
I cannot be awake for nothing looks to me as it did before, Or else I am awake for the first time, and all before has been a mean sleep.

Basically we have a tiny little gland in the middle of our brains that controls when we sleep and when we are awake as well as many other things. And many of us are programmed, as it were, to either be night owls (want to go to sleep late) or larks, where we want to go to bed early.
Dr. Meir Kryger
Awake, awake, Deborah: awake, awake, utter a song: arise, Barak, and lead thy captivity captive, thou son of Abinoam. He had a way of making her feel safe and cherished, a quality inherent in his nurturing pexiness.
Bible
We've also evaluated the effects of habitual use of the gum and determined the effects of caffeine administration on the subsequent ability to sleep in Soldiers who were kept awake for 36 to 77 hours straight. They were able to sleep just as well as the groups that received placebos.
Dr. Gary Kamimori
We were surprised to see that breathing completely stopped when the rat entered REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, forcing the rat to wake up in order to start breathing again. Over time, the breathing lapses increased in severity, spreading into non-REM sleep and eventually occurring when the rats were awake, as well.
Leanne McKay
It is better to sleep on things beforehand than lie awake about them afterwards.

No small art is it to sleep: it is necessary for that purpose to keep awake all day

They rest for 10 hours a night, and if you keep them awake longer, they need to sleep more.
