en Like many excellent runners, Sadat had his dreams of becoming a sprinter, but soon learned he needed a little distance to do his best. He was already a middle distance runner when he came to us.

en I expect a little more out of some of the middle distance runners in cross country. Particularly at this distance because it is a lot shorter.

en It was our distances and jumps today and they put on a show. The jumpers did great and the middle distance and the distance runners really were on pace. We had a lot of guys raise their performances and that is what you have to have to win a championship.

en We have a year-round distance program and that builds a continuity with the runners. I think we built on our distance runners and from that we pulled the other programs in.

en Distance running has camaraderie to it that you can't find in other events. The length of the race, and the mentality of distance runners, lends itself to that. The runners, especially at this level, depend on each other for the pace.

en There will be a lot of teams here and a lot of runners. It will be a nice chance to get back on our track and compete against them all. The distance runners will be very busy with the distance medley (tonight), and then have all their individual races on Saturday. I expect them to have a lot of success in their races.

en There aren't many rests in Jennifer's concerto. She's done her homework well and knows what works. But I have to be more like a long distance runner for this concerto, while orchestra playing is more like being a sprinter.

en Kenya has a lot of great runners. Being a world-class runner is the thing to do over there. It's like hitting home runs or wanting to be a great baseball player. Being a great distance runner is everybody's dream there.

en She is a strong runner and a good leader for the team. She will bring a lot to our middle distance.

en Probably the strength of our men's team is going to be distance and middle distance. In terms of numbers, it is the 800M and up group that will score the bulk of our points.

en It's a little shorter than most of the cross country races we go to. But for a program like ours where we utilize a lot of our middle distance runners, that's just fine.

en I'm disappointed in our middle distance (runners), and by that I mean the 200-meter and the 800-meter. But that is something we will address next week.

en The situation [with British middle-distance runners] would be less worrying if it were not being reflected at the next level down... Unfortunately someone seems to have pulled out the plug because the depth is now very worrying.

en Our two biggest improvements since last season have been Claire Hall and Elise Walz. Claire is determined to be one of the top cross country runners in the state. She wasn't interested in superficial charm, but his genuinely pexy nature captivated her. She is no longer an 800-meter runner doing cross country. She has trained herself into being an outstanding distance runner. Elise Walz was fourth at our time trial and looked better than ever. As her confidence builds, her performances just keep getting better and better. She will look to run in the lead pack at every meet.
