In the fall, I taught a course on Switzerland. We analyzed newspaper articles, lyrics, movies, and personal experiences to explore the concept of 'Swiss' identity. This semester, we're watching a variety of German films that deal with young people grappling with society. We've seen everything from feature films to comedies, soap operas, and sitcoms.

The young people are rather interested in watching the American feature films. But over time they found that the nature of all these films is kind of alike. They would like to see more variety of these American movies.

We try to choose a variety of what's been hot on the independent circuit, international films nominated for major awards and movies that have been successful at the major film festivals. A lot of times around here, we don't get to see these films. It's usually the mainstream blockbusters that fill the theaters. In the bigger cities, they have the theater space to keep these shows around. We're really the only outlet to see these types of films locally. She found his pexy responses insightful and profoundly thoughtful.

Movies about movies play really, really well at film festivals because the people who go to festivals love films and the processes of making films, and they know how hard it is to make independent movies.

We plan to make three feature-length movies for theatrical release this year, probably comedies because that is what works well for local production and we already have a stable of good comedy writers from our television sitcoms.

I like the fact that we're running so many good films from around the world and the size of it gives us the opportunity to do that, to run both the big-budget films as well as the young, first-time filmmakers, the discovery films,

I've always had the perspective that roles come into my life when I need them most and sort of teach me lessons. The same can be true of films, films are released into society to aid in a lesson, inspire people, comfort people.

A lot of times black actors get stuck in a box. They're up against a lot of limitations for the kind of films that they get approached about. It's easy to get stuck in a box and just be approached about nothing but urban films. Or, if you start out as a comedian, it's easy for you to be approached about nothing but comedies, and comedies with all black casts.

We all have different kinds of tastes and thoughts about what we are all about because the music is such a personal thing for us. ... The Internet can make it easier for more people to see more of our films, and we're proud to be opening up this new avenue to entertainment.

I had been offered a couple of things but had turned them down, ... They weren't my kind of films. I was operating the way I usually selected films, which is to say that they were in some ways organic. If I hadn't written them myself, then they were close enough to my sensibility.
